When you first approach the hotel down a cobbled street in the heart of Old Town it looks old and quaint. The lobby and common areas also add to this feeling.

Unfortunately the rest was mediocre. The bedroom and bathroom were nothing special and didn't feel anything like as cozy as the rest of the hotel. There's quite a bit of noise at night from people passing the street below even with the windows closed.

Breakfast was also disappointing when we got there at 9:30 there was no juice, milk, or hot meat items left. The waiter brought out an egg each and that was it with just some cold meat and cheese remaining. Overall the hotel wasn't terrible but we would try something else in future.

I have been in Riga several times, trying new places. This time I booked Old Riga Hotel Vecriga which had its pros and cons.

Pros:
- very good location
- friendly staff (but when for the 5th time you enter or leave your room and get "hello", "goodbye" gets a little funny :D)
- basic but good breakfast

Cons:

- very poor sound isolation, I mean so poor that it seems that you are living in the same apartment with 15 german tourists
- quite outdated equipment in the bathroom (hairdryer worked wherever it wanted, but the staff gave us a working one)
- on the first night we had a pleasure of slapping the mosquitos left and right, so we think it should have been done by cleaning staff?
- breakfast time is a little bit too early for those who want to have a longer sleep (from 8 to 10)
- also we had a strange "taking out tv tuner" incident, after two days stay we saw that it was taken from our room, without any explanation, so it is a little bit weird.

Overall, not a bad hotel, but those who looks for a longer and calmer sleeping time not the best option.

The location is great, right in the centre of the old town, on a pedestrianised path.
Staff were also lovely, very polite and always had a smile on.
Our room was large and clean, located on the first floor and overlooking the street. We didn’t get any outside noise disturbance but we did visit during a very quiet time.
Although the room was big, it was very plain and a little tired. It’s in desperate need of updating and given the size needed more furniture to help it feel cosier.
There were no tea and coffee facilities which was disappointing.
The bathroom is small and functional, again was clean but in desperate need of redecorating. The pink tiles and broken bath panel made it feel very 70s!
Breakfast felt a bit “fawlty towers”! No fresh juice, instead we had apple and orange squash. Fried eggs had run out and I heard another guest advise the barman so I was waiting for more to be added, only for 5 mins later to see him give her, her own fried eggs meaning no one else got any! There was still 30 mins of service left so I would have expected a full offering.
Cooked breakfast became frankfurter and soggy cold fries. No cooked veg, bacon or eggs. There were some ham and cheese toasties which must have been old as they were like cardboard.
Second day, hubby went out and bought back coffee and croissants from a local coffee shop instead.
Overall, a bit of tlc would make this a beautiful guest house but it feels very much like it’s on a gradual decline.

I stayed two nights in this small and cozy but a little bit outdated hotel with my friends. The location is just perfect for exploring the beautiful city. We all liked the calm and steady atmosphere of the old building. The hotel did not disappoint our expectations, as we did not expect luxury but average.
We had room on the third story. The rooms (no. 33 and 34) were small and clean, the bed was comfortable. The view from the other room was quite depressing – however this did not disturb at all. As there is no such thing as soundproofing, it is recommendable to have earplugs if you are sensitive to noises.
The most negative thing was that the room was quite hot and the indoor air smell a little bit stuffy.

Considering the reasonable price I would say that is was value for money.

Perfect location in the center of the city, from where you can go anywhere on foot. Hotel staff is very friendly and willing to help you with all your requests. Breakfast is very good with fresh ingredients.

If you are carrying a large luggage, it might be a small challenge to get to the hotel, but it's only for few meters. Also, there is no elevator, yet it's not a multi-store building, so almost everybody can manage to get in the room

Highly recommended!
