Not an easy building to find, but when you've heard the story .... well, you've got to, haven't you? It is worth seeing, yes but not especially worth going out of your way for the purpose! Mind, if you're a cat person ..... !

The medieval house with Art Nouveau elements had a wealthy owner who had some disagreement with the Guild in the neighbouring house. Therefore, the tradesman placed two cat statues on his roof with their tails turned towards the house of the Great Guild as a symbol of his grudge against his members. Later, the cats were turned.

Two cats on the roof. That is what is special about this House in jugend style. Not brother If you are not in the area.

Next to the Big Guild, surprise to find a sports bar on the ground floor. Its most famous for its 2 black cats legend says that a disgruntles tradesman was not allowed into the Big Guild so he showed his displeasure by putting 2 metal cats on his roof opposite the Guild with their back ends facing the Guild ! later the cats were turned around to be in a more polite position!

Ever wonder why there are so many shops in Riga offering Black Cat fridge magnets, postcards, notebooks, ashtrays, and so on? You can see the symbol on the roof of the house here. Every tour guide in town will have their version of the story of the “disagreement” between the owner of the house and the Guild across the street. The house sits on a lovely square, from which you can get an excellent photograph of the cat silhouette against a legendary Baltic sunset.
