Hotel itself is lovely. Great internal decor and the breakfast area is a treasure (especially the glass floor). The location is fantastic for a 3 day city break, central and always easy to find. The only problem was the noise and that isn't the hotels fault however makes the location poor. Due to riga being geared up for stag do's and beer drinkers last orders are Apx 3am. Therefore there is a horrific amount of noise singing and chanting from 1am to 3am. Again hotels location for the day is amazing but horrific at night

We visited the hotel for 5 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Warm welcome from Reception staff and Edgars,a very knowledgable and helpful young man, who helped us with various aspects of our stay. Room was spacious on the 4th floor overlooking the Square. Bedroom had tv, fridge, settee, easy chairs etc. Plenty of towels and toiletries and a night time service of water and Latvian chocolates. No tea or coffee facilities. Various marquees in the Square which were being dismantled during our stay but we didn't hear too much noise. We received a lovely plate of fresh fruits on our arrival and a bottle of Fizz during our stay for a birthday celebration which was a nice touch. Only disappointment would be the breakfast which was a buffet in the downstairs restaurant (which was advertised as being closed for renovation), the hot food wasn't hot and the plates were cold. On our first morning the staff didn't ask for our room number or explained anything to us. They also had to be reminded on 3 occasions to attend to the coffee machine. Also a 2 slice toaster for a 5 star Hotel???? We would recommend this Hotel and would stay here again.

Fantastic location in the middle of old town which unfortunately is the only real good thing about this place.

Rooms are ok but far from 5 star quality. Bed was uncomfortable and the pillows in need of replacement. The cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. On arrival the toilet was really in need of a good cleaning the one of the towels was really dirty with visible stains. Overall the room could have been cleaned much better. Soundproofing is terrible so count on hearing your neighbors and the street outside.

Breakfast was ok but again light years from what you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Staff was friendly but a bit passive. Lobby staff was on private calls on more than one occasion.

Wifi was a joke. If you could get a connection at all to one of the many hotspots the speed was really terrible.

To summarize, stay somewhere else. Not a bad hotel but, again, far from 5 stars.

Just got back from a 3 night stay here and I must say that it was excellent. The place is rated as a 5 star hotel, I've never really been totally sure what that means and what the difference between 3,4 and 5 star hotels are but I can see why this one is 5 stars.

We opted for the executive room as the rates were so cheap. We paid about £170 for 3 nights which is much less than what I'd usually be willing to pay for even a decent room. The room itself was large with a sofa, desk and minibar. We didn't use the minibar but the prices weren't all that expensive really. The room was very clean and modern.

The bathroom was excellent. The shower was very powerful, maybe the best I've ever used in a hotel and there were plenty of toiletries to pamper yourself with.

A few things I usually look for that some hotels often miss out for are lots of power sockets which this room had and a decent TV with satellite, this one even had channels that showed the Premier League games!

Location-wise, this hotel is one of the best in town. Right by pretty much everything you need. There is a convenience store on the same street, pubs nearby and a Hesburger fast food restaurant a 10 second walk away.

The staff were all friendly and helpful when we needed a taxi to take us back to the airport (for a fixed price of €15). We were never disturbed by the cleaners except to give us our complimentary water and chocolates.

The room rate includes a free breakfast which we tried on one of the days but it turned out to not be very good. I would perhaps have marked this review down to 4 out of 5 if it wasn't so cheap to begin with. I would advise on skipping the breakfast and going elsewhere though that could be me as I am a typical Englishman and nowhere but the UK/Ireland seems to be able to do a decent breakfast in my opinion. If you like the continental croissant and pastry thing then this may suit you but if you want something more substantial (like a proper fry up) then you may want to go elsewhere.

All in all if I returned to Riga I would not hesitate to stay here again, especially at the price we got it for.

Room tip: Go for an executive room or above if the price suits you!

What a wonderful 3 days at the Royal, a last minute trip that could not have been more special.

The Royal suites is a beautiful hotel, set with luxurious features and the most amazing staff in Latvia. Nothing was too much trouble, from the daily chocolates and the personalised touch of wine in the room- the staff made our trip, the breakfast was 1st class and the breakfast room itself feels like you are eating in a Michelin restaurant.i could not recommend higher, world class staff, beautiful decor and central location.

Thank you thank you!
