Domus Maria is well situated in the old town close to Gate of Dawn and a short walk from the train station and bus station. It is an old Carmellite monastery. We booked a deluxe room which consisted of a sitting room, bedroom and good sized bathroom with bath and shower attachment.A kettle and 2 cups are provided but no tea/coffee to go with it.
Architecturally it is a characterful building but the rooms are decorated in a bland motel/hostel style.i.e. faux wood melamine fittings that detract from the charm.A rug on the floor would have added warmth and also hidden the deep blackened scratches that were embedded into the floor.

It is however good value for money with breakfast included. The breakfast was adequate if not inspiring. Its biggest drawcard is its location and pleasant outlook amongst the myriad of churches.

Booked a superior double room, consisting of lounge, bedroom & bathroom for only £65 per night, including breakfast. Superb value; we have paid as much in a modest B&B in the UK. Everything spotlessly clean, with fresh towels every day. Very comfortable king sized bed. Excellent choice at breakfast, unless you are looking for a traditional English full monty. The cooked selection is limited, but there is a good choice of everything else. Reception staff friendly & helpful, speaking good English.
One slight drawback; our room was quite close to the stairs, which echo when in use, as they are uncarpeted. This did disturb me one night when someone checked in very late.

The adage you get what you pay for is self evident here, spartan rooms in a lovely old building in the old town for very reasonable rates. The cheaper price however compromises a few things like onsite restaurant and some of the room comforts. However the friendly staff and location soon make these things irrelevant. The only downside was the heating in the room was (counter to the rest of Europe) not quite hot enough. If you are in Vilnius for the town and not a 5 star hotel experience then I would reccomend Domus Maria.

The rooms are a little grim, especially on the top floor. Bordering on spartan.

That said, there are many advantages in staying here:
Location - fantastic, couldn't be better: within short walking distance from the train station with trains to the airport, and close to all main attractions
Cleanliness - absolutely spotless
Great breakfast - particularly generous for hostels in this price category
Friendly staff - every question was answered at length, in detail and with a smile
Good value - considering all of the above, it is fairly priced

Highly recommended!

The location was perfect and close to all the major sites, resturants, bars and a short walk to the bus and train station. The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean with an excellent shower. Breakfast was very good, fresh and with plenty of choice. The staff were helpfull, professional and polite. Highly recommended.
