As an American traveling in Europe, some of the history that we associate with a particular group is viewed with a different lens abroad. For example, this lovely museum had a collection of items from Japan while we visited in Winter 2017. My husband is of Chinese descent, and several of the items weren't Japanese but Chinese; the Hungarians have their own history and relationship with ShiangHai that it all kind of blends together for them. Its a beautiful way to have a better understanding of modern Hungarian history in a way that relates to Americans, as we have our own Asian American story. This museum felt like a local attraction, not designed for tourists but for the city's enrichment overall. Coat check with lockers, cozy collection rooms, and a video playing in Hungarian all make this a great little stop if you happen to be strolling by on Andrassy.

This was a first time because we were invited to a guided tour of textiles from South-East Asia. The art exhibition was interesting with nice and curiosity pieces, but the museum itself is very small and was not enough air for the amount of people. We loved the museologist who was very aware of the history and had a huge knowledge of she was talking about. The toilette could use a renovation and would love to have an air conditioner or fans in the public areas.

The Asian museum is located about halfway up Andrasy street towards Heroes' square. The museum is closed Mondays and open Tues - Sun from 10AM - 6PM. The library is open Tues/Weds from 10AM - 3PM. There are various permanent and temporary exhibits.

One of two Asian themed museums in the popular Andrassy avenue area of Pest. Interesting exhibits both inside and in the garden, a visit can be combined with a walk to the Heroes square.
