Owner description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

Our family of 4 visited the Hospital in the rock one afternoon. We weren't sure what to expect but had been recommended by some friends to visit.
We had a fantastic guide who spoke fluent English and took us around the hospital explaining all of the history and what it would have been like down there in world war 2. It has been set out almost exactly like it would have been and all the medical instruments, furnishings etc are the actual ones that would have been used at the time.
It was so interesting to learn all about the history of the hospital and what awful conditions they had to work in.
A definite must do if you are in Budapest and have a spare hour.

An hour long guided tour into the caves utilised during WW2 as a hospital and a nuclear bunker during the Cold War.
Entry for under 25’s is discounted to 2000 Hungarian forints when ID is shown.
An hour long tour that began with a short video to provide context to the caves.
An extremely informative tour that does not shy away from the history of Budapest. Rooms have been restored and fitted with original items and furnishings with wax figures to bring it all to life.
A Hiroshima and Nagasaki exhibition was waiting at the end of the tour with items from the sites that bring home the devastation of it all.

Very moving and interesting museum. My teenage son loved this tour. The special exhibit of the Sadako Paper Cranes was the best part.

We were interested in this tour as one of our party is a nurse and one works in the nuclear industry. We both loved it! Our guide was very informative and spoke excellent English. The wax models were extremely realistic and brought the scenes to life. We found the tour both harrowing and humbling. Would highly recommend going here. My only criticism is the tour behind us was close at times so if you ended up at the back of the group you could hear what their guide was saying were unable to hear your own guide so stay up front.

At first we weren't sure why they insisted that it was only a guided tour (we like to explore places ourselves), however, we did discover rather quickly, that it is because the Hospital In The Rock is a labyrinth, anyone would get lost. Timi, our guide was fantastic and very informative, always happy to answer questions throughout the hour long tour. Great for those that love their communist nostalgia.
