“Too much attention to presentation, less to taste”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

Onyx definitely strive to impress. The restaurant is of a far end from being casual. The form prevails everywhere - while the main thing (taste) sometime leaves a lot be be desired. Amuse bouche was a small cream of brocolli soup with an extremely strong cabbage taste that did not combine at all with some fishy jelly in the bottom (I was told this was a crab one). Starter - lobster salad with tomoto variation - was again lacking taste in the main part - lobster itself (that was also too heavily salted on one side) while tomato variations were small nice things where the whole chef's effort was seamingly centered. My main course was rabbit variations - and here I have to admit it was absolutely deliciious. The desert - sponge cake 21st century (such a name!) was way too sweet that did not allow to open the taste. Overall, a mixed bad of results. Worth noting that portions are very small, value for money is a question mark. Beware this is one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) restaurants in Budapest

“Good place to eat in Budapest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2012

The design is a bit too opulant for my taste.
My husband and I chose the tasting menus, I the "Hungarian Evolution" and he the " Prestige menu". Every step was excellent. You absolutely get the flavors you're promised to get. A place worth experiencing. The staff could be a litlle bit more sociable, they seem so absent.

“One of the bests”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2012

This is my real reaview, the other was submitted by someone else under my sign in.

One of the best places in Budapest, a good value for money especially at lunchtime, if you have a table.

The food selection is almost the same since long time, but they have a seasonal proposal every week. The kitchen decorates dishes artistically, the service is quiet and sufficient.

“Incredible Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

Visited Onyx for lunch whilst in Budapest and thoroughly enjoyed it! The service, whilst not to everybody's taste, was impeccable and the food in a league of its own. I had scallops with cauliflower variations, followed by lamb whilst my partner opted for the rabbit, all of which was delicious, beautifully presented and for a very reasonable price at lunch time! We shared the pina colada dessert and left full and very satisfied. Lunch at Onyx was the perfect way to end an incredible holiday.
