From the minute you step off the train high up over the lake you realize you’re somewhere special. A dramatic backdrop provided by snow capped mountains and the trademark island in the middle of the lake ensure that this place will never be forgotten. You can walk a lap of the lake in about 90 minutes and there are climbs up to viewing points around the lake that provide instagrammable opportunities by the dozen. You can see the Slovenian Olympic rowers training and sample the famous cream cake, as well as book a table at the 1906 restaurant to enjoy great food whilst admiring the vista.
I for one will be going back here.

We were extremely lucky to have our wedding day in lake bled last August. Every person who came to the wedding commented what a beautiful place it was and that they would come again. The view is quite literally breathtaking. We are coming back this year for our first wedding anniversary and all the family are planning to do the same. Lots to do for couples and families. The lake is beautiful to swim in or row across. Definitely a must see in Europe.

A beautiful place at the foot of the Alps, just over an hour away from Ljubljana. I would advise getting the bus ticket in advance as the seats get taken very quickly as this is a popular place to visit. Once at the lake, it is worth taking a gentle stroll around it in order to get as many different angle photographs of it as possible.

Just a stunning place. A castle on the hill and tiny island with monastery in center of lake. All surrounded by the Julian alps.
White swans swimming in lake.
Little boats take you out to the island. It is just full of history dating back centuries.
