Nestled upon the river embankment just underneath the fortress of Vysehrad, gourmets would be wise to visit this farmer’s market, which pops up every Saturday. Blend in with the locals as you experience some of the best food (and sights) that the city has to offer. The market usually offers seasonal vegetables, freshly baked bread and cakes, pickles and preserves along with sausages and other specialist meats. Enjoy your bounty whilst sitting by the riverside and watching the people of Prague go about their Saturdays.

Although it can get very crowded sometimes this is a very nice market, mostly for street food and handmade gifts. Also has some farmers selling fresh products and honey. Nice for a Saturday morning walk and lunch. It is a little expensive though for street food. 4 stars instead of 5 is for being very crowded and for having expensive food.

Many thanks to the young man at the front desk of our hotel who told us about this--it's a special spot, a special weekly event most Saturdays (it does close for a few weeks after Christmas). Fresh fish--or fish fried to order. Baked goods, cheeses, vegetables, handmade crafts. Go early, because by noon, some vendors are already sold out.
Loved the freshly-baked crepes. Beer, hot chocolate, great mulled wine.
Too many things, so little time!

It took a long time to warm to this place, initially, I couldn't be bothered. Getting dragged there and looking at things I wasn't interested in.. the usual thing a man has to do. But one day I embraced it. Got myself some dried chili, fresh fish and had a couple of cheeky glasses of prosecco. Now, I do enjoy getting stuck in, sampling various things you don't always get in a supermarket and having a bit to eat and drink. Its a decent couple of hours. And, although this isn't Istanbul, you can do a bit of haggling here and there..
