“Great hotel, poor neighborhood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

This small hotel is fairly new, so everything from carpet to bed and bathroom fixtures was in excellent condition and very nice. The decor throughout the hotel was very nice. The appointments in the double bedroom are minimal, with good closet and small desk and chair, but it was very comfortable, if not spacious. The bed was just like home: not too hard! The bathroom was sparkling, with high quality and modern facilities. The included breakfast was delicious! There is a large dining area with large buffet of typical European foods and local specialties: many breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries, boiled eggs, coffee/tea, juices. The front desk staff was helpful and spoke good English. They directed us to a nearby restaurant where they spoke a little English and had a good selection of meals at reasonable prices. They called in a van service to take us to the airport when we left. The hotel itself was a good value, but the neighborhood reduced that, see below.
This hotel is 10 min. or so from the center of Prague, but the public trams worked well for us. Unfortunately, it wasn't in a very nice part of town - the area was run-down with some abandoned buildings. This detracted from our impression, since we walked 2 blocks through the area to use the public transportation. The hotel keeps the front door locked and you ring a buzzer to get in. There were always plenty of people out on the streets, including Moms with baby carriages, so we never felt in danger, but the area clearly needs revitalization. There is no air conditioning in this hotel, but the windows open. Unfortunately, that can let noise in at night, although the area is generally quiet.

Rooms are ok, w stayed in junior suite. Most staff members are also helpul. Swimming pool is nice. However, the english skills of some staff members are not as good as others. Our pool reservation was forgotten, caus we di it two days in avance and a staff member said they possibly can not handle reservations made that early. I suggested a calendar. The room was good as was the majoririty of staff but be precise and articulate on your orders. You should speak easy sentences and get confirmations to things you say.

Hotel Askania is a beautiful , new hotel in Prague 4 district . Our room was big and elegant with beautiful bathroom . Verry clean . The staff is great, verry helpful. The buffet breakfast was fantastic. The street is quiet but only one minute walk from the main street with tram stops that in ten minutes takes you to the city center . You can buy the tickets in the reception. Nearby there is also a nice restaurant named "Chapadlo" when you can eat some tasty food and drink cold beer after the whole day of walking.
Both places recommended. Good value for money

My friend and I stayed 2 nights at Hotel Askania and were surprised by the quality for the price. We booked online with no expectations except cleanliness and as we considered it a budget hotel, were pleasantly surprised. We requested for 2 singles and were given a suite with a kingsize bed and a pullout; there were 2 large tv's, all the amenities of a large hotel chain - hairdryer, shampoos, etc. The buffet breakfast was very nice and had something for everyone. The staff was really helpful, especially Raphael who recommended restaurants, bus and train services. We decided to stay an extra night and couldn't get a room together, so had 2 jr rooms which were very comfortable . There is a sauna and swimming pool, but we didn't partake of either so have nothing to add . Free wifi was available. Would definitely return and recommend for others.

Just got through with a two day stay at the Askania. If you are researching the location on Google Earth you will not see the restoration of this "new" Hotel (since 2010). It, however, will be the older version of the narrow building just to the right of the older SIS Hotel.
The Askania is very neat and modern inside. All the rooms are small (I had a single room), but well appointed, especially the beautifully titled bathrooms. The shower stalls are a bit cramped, but the nice part is all the fixtures, water pressure and hair drying function well. The windows open. There is a safe in the small closet which is easy to use. The stairwells are emaculate with fine dark red carpeting. There is a new, well functioning elevator. The lobby is small and not one where you will "hang out", but who needs that when you have a nice room to use. I did not use the swimming pool or billards area (borth which cost extra I believe to use) as my purpose for a hotel is just for sleeping and breakfast. Speaking of breakfast and its choices, which is included in the price of the room, it was superb! An excellent assortment of breakfast food choices to satisfy various tastes. The lady in charge of breakfast's did a marvelous job of providing and replacing the supply of items used by the guests. The breakfast room itself is spacious with plenty of room between tables. There is a purchase mini-bar in the room, as well as at the reception desk where one can buy an assortment of goodies, to include beers, wines. etc. to take to your room. The # 11 and #18 TRAMS can be caught at a stop about two blocks from the hotel, called "Namesti Brati Synku",which is the best stop to use because both these trams stop there. The other Tram stop a long block away from the Hotel, called "Horky", after the stop above and farther from city center, can also be used, but just the #11 Tram goes in that direction and stops there. The # 18 Tram turns in another direction at the previously mentioned stop. It takes about 10 minutes by Tram to get to Old Town Prague. You can purchase tickets for the Tram (one way-30 minutes time frame for 24 Kr. Have a 90 minute for 32Kr) from the reception desk clerk. The clerks, especially Stephan, are helpful and speak English along with their native language and a few more. There is a nice restaurant/bar a block away near the "Honky" Tram Stop. The clerks will tell you about it.
So, if you are looking for a not too expensive small, well-kept, Hotel from which to explore Prague, this should fit the bill nicely!

Room Tip: Obviously, the non-single rooms are a bit larger. The single rooms are just that, fit for one perso...
