“One of the best in Prague”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

Barcelo is a stone's throw away from Old Town Square and Powder Gate. If you're a tourist, you can't go wrong with living right next door to two of Prague's most famous sights. Also, shopping is a short walk away. Palladium, Parizska, all nearby. And Old Town Square is different shades of magical by day and night, so living right next to it lets you stroll to and from it with leisure.

The rooms are great. We stayed in a Deluxe Junior Suite, which was spacious beyond what we could possibly have needed. There was a separate living room and bedroom, and the bathroom was huge and clean. The toilet is, as Europeans do, in a separate room (and rather far away too) from the shower. The shower was in the bathroom next to the bedroom, but the toilet was in a small room right off the front door, so that was interesting.

The management is very polite and efficient, and the lobby is nice and large. Booked us taxis with no hassle, printed our itineraries with no hassle, etc. Also, the breakfast buffet was amazing. Delicious food, ample selections of pastries and meats and breakfast foods.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel; I've got no complaints and think this is one of the best in Prague if you're looking for modern, luxurious, yet efficient.

If you are looking for the best location, excellent rooms and food in Prague then look no further than this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The maitre de (sorry, missed his name) helped us make some good choices of food and wine - we ate on the terrace when we needed to have dinner early in order to make a concert we had booked. The breakfast was really special - in fact all the food we ate in the hotel was first class. The standard rooms are neat, clean and well appointed - we were really satisfied even without an upgrade! The location couldn't be better - don't bother with cheaper hotels on the outskirts of town you will just have to travel in and out every day. Just book this place and you will not be disappointed. Beds were comfy, you even have a choice of pillow to suit.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor and was very quiet.

Stayed here 19-22nd Aug. It was excellent. The location couldn't be better- so easy to walk everywhere from here and surrounded by beautiful buildings. We had been upgraded to a junior suite-so much space and very comfortable-only down side was the weather was exceptionally hot and the air conditioning wasn't great. Lovely big towels. No noise when the windows were shut.Late check out perfect for a late flight back. The breakfast was wonderful-choice and quality- don't know how anyone could find any faults with it. Disappointed the roof terrace was only for private parties, as it is advertised as part of the hotel. We arrived at 1.30am after a 5 hour flight delay and then taxi taking is to wrong Barcelo hotel- had a warm and friendly greeting and the suite was so good we felt better immediately!

Room Tip: We were on 5th floor in a junior suite and it was great

Staff could have been more helpful but was nice.

Desk could not figure out how to multi task, ie help more than 1 person at a time.

She spent a long time with one person while 3 others behind waited with just short questions.

Perhaps that is a US impatientce deal

Have never left a negative review before and have traveled extensively around the world so this is not written light heartily
The hotel room itself was very comfortable and well sited for all the main attractions, however if you have been to Prague you will know that everything is within easy walking distance so most hotels fall into this bracket.
It was very noisy at night but thought it might be before we booked it, closed the windows and all the noise was instantly shut out, however the air conditioning was shockingly poor and very noisy, when this was raised as a concern we were told there was nothing could be done but they work well in the winter, not much help when the average temp in August is mid to high 20s.
The website showed a very good looking cellar restaurant, but when we asked about it at reception we were told it is only for party bookings, the same story applied to the roof terrace, we did however have access to the "summer terrace" unfortunately so did any passing member of the public as it was on the pavement at the rear of the hotel.
The bar was advertised as being open until 1:30am but when we returned to the hotel at 11:30pm for a night cap we were told again that it was closed.
The service from the majority of the staff can only be described as poor (not all members of staff but most) I felt as if the simplest tasks was too much effort. This is not a cheap hotel and wish I had chosen a different one and there are many to chose from, we may just have been unlucky but when talking to other guest they all felt the same.
Luckily however this did not spoil our time in Prague and it is fantastic place to visit for a short break, and I would recommend it to anybody, it's a shame I can't say the same about the Barcelo in the Old Town
