“We loved Libellule”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time. The house itself is very well located, just off the main square and is very comfortable, with all we could want. It was a home away from home. All conveniences and a charming roof terrace.

The village is perfect with a small but well stocked shop and a superb bar. We ate and drank on the terrace of the bar two nights and the owners were very friendly and forgiving of our almost non existent French and we enjoyed their excellent food.

We could have happily stayed longer as it is a perfect base for exploring the region and the house is so comfortable to come back to.

“All you could ask for!”
Reviewed 14 April 2014 for a stay in July 2013

We have spent the past many many summers renting houses all over France and have had mostly very positive experiences. Renting Libellule in Neffiès was one of the easiest rental transactions we have had - Peter and Susan are fellow Canadians so all the communication was very clear. I speak fluent French so mostly we rent directly through French owners of properties - this was a (pleasant) surprise to be doing all the dealings in English. Peter and Susan were extremely helpful in recommending places to eat, visit etc... to us even before we arrived and found the extensive selection of tourism literature in the house itself. Knowing we were foodies, they recommended we eat at O Bontemps in nearby Magalas and that was honestly one of the highlights of the trip. (Speaking fluent French helped us get a local taxi to drive us there and home again so we could enjoy some wine with our magnificent lunch!).

The house itself is charming and very well appointed. Lots of stairs though and the upper floor can be a little hot in the height of summer. There is a lovely patio upstairs on the roof where we enjoyed many an apéro in the cool of the setting sun. The house is very well appointed and had excellent wifi. The town of Neffiès is the perfect size for a "home base" in the area. With a tiny grocery store, a boulangerie, restaurants and a café, it's got everything you need and the town is still in driving distance from anywhere you would want to visit in the region (we even went as far as the Camargue one day!).

We're quite picky about our rental homes now with so much experience of them and honestly, this one, we had a hard time finding fault with. The only thing that was not ideal for the 5th person staying with us was that the full bathrooms are located as en-suites in the other two bedrooms. Also the third bedroom is very small so in the summer, got very hot. But other than those things, the house was a really excellent rental property and I would have no hesitation recommending it to friends.

A phone call from Peter to check in on us literally as we were unloading our car and a bottle of cold rosé in the fridge were really nice touches :)

Liked best: Location, house had character yet modern amenities.
Liked least: It was VERy hot when we were there and the fans can only do so much. Also, both full bathrooms are in bedrooms so for the people not sleeping there, they have to go through the other people's bedrooms to shower.

“Charming House, Great Location for Touring”
Reviewed 4 April 2014 for a stay in August 2013

We travel to France pretty much every year, summer or winter, and usually book holiday rental homes - touring different regions of the country.

The booking process was easy, house exactly as listed, and owners incredibly welcoming. To have a phone call in the house within 30 minutes of arriving to see "all good" was a complete (happy) surprise. (And yes, all was.)

As for Libellule itself, a home with modern amenities, but also French character, and lots of space. Positively huge lunge for watching television, and in the heat of summer the rooftop terrace was ideal for reading in the shade, or enjoying an apero. The bundle of local maps and books for touring was a plus.

The town itself is nice and quiet, parking in the square a few steps away. It's a quiet small village, nice to walk around, with other palces to visit very close by - so we initially chose as a good central location.

Highly recommended.

“The location was restful and sightseeing awesome!!”
Reviewed 22 January 2014 for a stay in October 2013

A lovely house that is comfortable for relaxing. The roof top garden is a delightful get away for reading. We enjoyed the quaint village with local bakery and restaurants . Day trips for sightseeing in the area was wonderful. Grocery shopping in town and nearby was handy.

“Libellule: Christmas with Old World Charm and Modern Comforts”
Reviewed 17 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

Our family is living in Scotland, and we were looking for a Christmas vacation destination in France where our family could relax and enjoy being in a small town, while still being situated close to points of interest. Booking Libellule, in Neffies, was a bit of a gamble, in that the accommodations looked nice on the website, but Neffies was a bit of an unknown.

Located on a street too narrow on which to drive a car, and just off the town square, Libellule is loaded with both character and comfort. The building is old stone construction, which has been well cared for and plastered in such a way that much of the stone is exposed. Ceiling timbers are also exposed and the floor is a lovely warm tile, or newly placed wood laminate, which complements Libellule’s rustic, yet contemporary feel. With clean, new furnishings, and a bottle of local wine on the table our welcome was warm (the heat had been turned on prior to our arrival). Peter (Libellule’s owner) called just as we finished unpacking to make certain that we had made it in, were settled, and he invited us to call him if we had any questions…

After eleven days in Libellule and Neffies, we didn't want to leave. Libellule was even nicer than it appeared on the website. In addition to being nicely finished, the kitchen is well outfitted, and we wanted for nothing... With plenty of electric heaters, we were cozy and comfortable. The rooftop patio is oriented in such a manner that it captures the sun and made for a lovely place to read and nap... even in January.

Neffies is a gem. Built on a hillside overlooking endless vineyards, which stretch to the Mediterranean, it has lots of charm and is not at all touristy. The epicerie is small and well provisioned, and we sent our daughters for daily visits to the boulangerie/patiserie for delicious fresh baked goods. Within a 3 minute walk from Libellule are a couple of restaurants, one of which is closed in the winter, but the other was always filled with activity.

We loved being in Neffies over Christmas. The town was beautifully decorated, it was quiet, and we enjoyed several walks through town and beyond, into the surrounding countryside. Around Neffies are several small towns, all of which have great charm and are worth exploring.

Using Neffies as a base for day trips was perfect. We enjoyed a great day exploring the busy market and winding streets of Pezenas (15 minute drive). We loved Sete and the beautiful nearby beaches (30-60 minutes depending on your route). Hiking in Moureze was awesome and otherworldly… a beautiful town and landscape (30 minutes). Saint-Guillhem-le-Desert also was beautiful and in balance with nature (60 minutes). A longer drive took us to Nimes and the Pont du Gard, which was awesome in its scale (90 minutes). But some of our more memorable experiences will be the walks we took in and around Neffies… We enjoyed getting lost and then finding our way home.

I’m sure that Neffies is lovely in summer. I envision lots of people milling about, and a lively social scene, but we loved the peace and quiet that we found in winter.
