Being the first stop on our Honeymoon, my new wife and I did not know what to expect when arriving on Waiheke Island but this island as well as our accommodations at the Oyster Inn Far Exceeded our expectations. Great service, location, and accommodations make this a must on any travels to New Zealand.

The Oyster Inn has great views on a good day.mon the night we visited however, it was luring with rain and the balcony area, although it has plastic drop curtains was still chilly. The staff were accommodating in moving us indoors at our request. We ordered the Fish and Chios and Market Fish dishes. Both were beautifully presented and the service was good. The Market Fish dish does need a rocket fuel warning however, as the sauce with the green papaya is very hot. Wr noted the oysters being served beautifully at a table near us too. Wines were good, but this is a pricy restaurant.

We visited on Easter Monday not knowing the restaurant had changed hands and were hugely disappointed. We ordered bread and oil that didn’t come. The food while ok was very small portions and over priced and the choices were limited. To add insult to injury for the second time when visiting we were charged for wine we didn’t have and although this was refunded when we asked to see the bill the 15% yes that’s right 15% surcharge for it being a Public Holiday was not refunded. We will not return which is a shame as it’s a great venue with a good vibe and could have been such a nice finish to a great long weekend instead we were left with a really sour taste.

We were made very welcome by an African waitress. She was so lovely and informed us on the menu. I had fish and chips - enormous serving! and my husband had gnocchi - both amazing food. prices are high but this is Waiheke.Service was excellent.

When it comes to service, they are more keen to seat People than to feed them. I had to ask 3 times for a glass of wine and the third time I could see that the waitress was standing idle in spite of claiming that she was extremely busy. Here, you will find the most disgusting kitchen in the whole island and the laziest staff. If you really want to try the oysters, head down to the seafood market 2 stops down. I had to cancel my remaining order and walk out of the presumptuous place.
