We spent two nights of the Easter long week-end at Hekerua Lodge. It was fun from the moment we arrived. The private room that we had was very nice with a skylight to see the stars and the full moon. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was very nice. There were ample showers, toilets and sinks (all separate) on each level. The kitchen was well-equipped and there were three fridges and bins for non-perishables. The out tables were amazing and had seating for everyone. The indoor spaces were very homey. The pool & hot tub were great, too. This is a great place to base yourself on Waiheke Island.

Room was very nice. Very clean and comfortable.
Hostel itself was good. Easy access to/from the nearest village area. Lively atmosphere. But kitchen was very small and squashed for the amount of people there. But overall it seemed like a nice place. The staff were good and helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: We stayed in a private double room. Was good.

Hi, Thank you very much for your review. We are very happy you had a good time with us.
It's true our kitchen is a bit small for the number of people here - but we are renovating the back of the house kitchen at the moment, it will be operational in a couple of month to help traffic!
We hope to see you agin! Cheers

We stayed the weekend in a private room to attend a wedding on the island.Staff were friendly but try to check in before 1pm or after 6pm. Room was very clean and tidy as were the facilities upstairs. I would probably recommend pillow protectors to mitigate sweat stains on pillows, especially as guests are required to strip the bed and pillows before they leave. Remember - this is a backpackers, not a hotel! Pool was closed while we were there, but the ocean is a short walk.
Other guests were friendly and the new managers/owners did a good job of making you feel welcome. A beautiful spot, fun, young, great weekend. Thanks.

Thank you for your review.
We do close the office between 1 and 6 pm but encourage our guests to make themselves at home or drop their bags in the lounge and go for an adventure until a staff member get back to the office.
Thank you for you remark regarding pillow cases, we will make sure no pillows has been forgotten as we do have pillow protectors - we would prefer them being use....
The Pool did have some balance issue while you were there and we really do apologies about this - it is back crystal blue now, we hope that you will get a chance to come back soon and experience Hekerua's famous Rock Pool!
Cheers,
Tom&Audrey

Came her for a few nights for my brothers wedding. Had my own room , clean functional and the only real noise was the cicadas.

Easy to get too and from the ferry, bus stop is at the top of the road. Great location with helpful and friendly staff !!

This hostel has the feel that only Workawayers and/or volunteers run it. We went here in January in the peak of summer. Our room was very hot (not the hostel's fault) but there was not much air flow in our room. We were torn between opening the windows and getting eaten by bugs or closing the windows during our sleep and sweating out litres of liquid. Some sort of fan or air assistance would have been nice. The kitchen was a decent size with a good amount of hobs but the living spaces were ridden with flies and insects. Clearly, there are some people who are not bothered by this. If you are not, then well done but if you are then I would think twice about staying here. The swimming pool is great to jump into after a hot summer's day and the staff were lovely.

Hi there, Thank you for your feedback.
This summer has definitely been one of the hottest New Zealand has ever seen, so yes it is hot in the rooms and we have now invested in some fans to help airflow in the building. Yes there are mosquitoes at night, we do provide each room with mosquitos plug which - if used properly help a lot. We do advise guests to turn off the lights when not in the room but we can not enforce this and as a result bugs come to light. For bugs and flies in the living spaces, it does happen on very hot days - we try our best to avoid them but it is part of the lovely bush setting we are surrounded with. The Cicadas just arrived now too- if you do not like there sound then maybe you shouldn't stay with us.
But yes we have a lovely stone pool which is great to cool down - the spa pool is there for colder days too - and our staff is lovely and actually managed by the owners themselves, who do not live onsite but are very close to the hostel and at least come by once everyday.
