We too had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Wish we'd read the other reviews before we went - won't be caught out again.
After my husband and I had eaten lunch here about a year ago on a recommendation and had a great lunch, we decided it would be nice to take our group of friends there for dinner, but unfortunately it wasn't such a great experience the second time around, as two of the red wines we wanted to order had run out (in a wine area!!!!) and we were forced to buy a more expensive wine. There was no vegetarian option on the menu and only 4 choices. Friends who had the Swordfish said it needed something like a sauce or even a piece of lemon would have been nice. Couldn't recommend this restaurant at the moment. Hope they pick up their game.

Hello Denise,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback on your unfortunate experience here at The Wineglass. We have been busy this week ensuring that all issues mentioned lately have been rectified. We are adding some vegetarian dishes to our menu, and making some changes that we feel are needed from the feedback we have received.

Our sincerest apologies for your dining experience being less than perfect.

We dropped into the Wine Glass on Saturday lunch of the long weekend to check if a reservation was required for the following evening for an early dinner Sunday and we were told we WOULD be able to secure a table for an early sitting. We perused the short menu and it looked good.
On Sunday evening, we arrived at 5.35pm and asked the young lady at the bar whether the restaurant was yet open and requested a table. She replied “ Do you have a reservation?” our reply “NO we don’t.”
“ Oh, I’m afraid we are all booked out this evening”
We looked around and there was not one soul dining, just the staff all exchanging mobile messages behind the bar. We said we wouldn’t be long as we had a 6.30pm engagement. The answer was still a firm NO. We have NO tables available.
As we departed I noticed fully set tables outside the restaurant in the courtyard, so I doubled back and spoke to another abrupt young male staff member inquiring whether we could dine in the courtyard if another table there was set.
“Sorry NO” was the reply.
“ We have NO tables, NO staff, and NOT enough food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!was his answer.
I was stunned!!!
Staggering that on a long weekend (when you’d know it would be full house all weekend)
you would run out of food and not have enough staff rostered.
Later we walked past the restaurant on our way back to the hotel at 7.30pm and peered through the window expecting to see every seat taken.
9 patrons ONLY dining, and 4 staff all chatting to each other once again behind the bar. Appeared to us that it was overstaffed, and after reading the reviews here, seems we were lucky we didn’t find a table.
We did have an exceptional meal though around the corner at Eltons where the staff were charming (and in abundance) and they hadn’t run out of food!
The tapas share plates were exceptional as was the service.
From the TA reviews, and our own experience at the Wine Glass, I think its hit or miss here.
Luckily for us last Sunday it was a big MISS.

Hello Kerrien,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am not sure where the miscommunication occurred in your experience with us.

We are generally fully booked every weekend, and the September/ October long weekend this year was certainly no exception, therefore it is our policy to advise every patron or potential booking that weekends, and especially long weekends, that bookings should be made in advance to prevent disappointment.

I can understand your frustration when you popped in last minute to try get a booking, and were turned away, however, we simply cannot put people onto placements which have already been booked in advance for a specific time.

I apologise that you felt that our team member was abrupt, and this has been passed on, but our staff had already advised you twice that unfortunately we would be unable to assist you in this instance.

Our latest dining experience at The Wineglass was a disappointment. Going on past experiences we were looking forward to a lovely meal however not this time - 24 September 2018. Yes it was a Monday night but no public holiday so no excuse for lack of supplies, local shops were open; could have restocked 'a seasonal menu, inspired by the regions local produce' quote from their website. Also noted 'the menu changes regularly'; this would be an easy exercise as the menu consisted of 4 entrees, 4 mains, 4 side dishes, 4 desserts; of which by 7pm they ran out of one main -swordfish ??local produce??. Also ran out of side order of beans and we did not hang around for deserts so don't know if all selections were available. The food portions were lacking very small but the prices were up there and the menu selection limiting - Main choices were Beef, Swordfish, Chicken, Rabbit. The beef was tender but over crispy cooked on a small bed of cabbage; the chicken one breast piece on a bed of six pumpkin balls was dry had to dip into garlic butter of potato side dish. This meal did not reflect the 'region's best food & wine experiences'. We left with a bill of over $100 and looking forward to a hearty breakfast. Will not be dining there again.

Good Afternoon.
Thank you for your feedback, it is feedback from patrons which allow us too see how we are performing and gauge which areas need improvement. We have taken all recent feedback on board, and can only apologise that you had a less than perfect experience.
We have since made improvements to our menu, adding some more dishes to ensure that most dietary preferences can be catered for, and we have a new head chef and restaurant manager starting.

I hope you will consider coming to dine in our establishment again, where I am sure you will note a marked improvement in all areas you mention.

New menu leaves a lot to be desired, compared to previous visits.
On this occasion we were served under cooked meals and over charged. Staff were pleasant tho it did not make up for the poor dining experience and compared to previous visits & thoroughly enjoyed very good service and food.. very disappointed and highly unlikely to return or recommend.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review. It is a sad fact that people are less likely to tell people about a good experience than a bad one, so it is reviews like yours that help to buoy our team up, and tell us that we are doing something right :-)

Thank you again, and we hope to see you again soon.
