After a long journey back home to our home village, we discovered a new dimension of Paternopoli. Megaron offers a fine cuisine, using and evolving local ingredients in an unforgettable art of cooking. We took a menù degustazione and experienced a symphony of taste and visual sensation. Valentina cooks like a poet. Her 'zuppa di zucchini' was including flowers, fruit and the whole plant: simple and just genius. Thank you for this wonderful experience, we come again!

We visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon and almost had the restaurant to ourselves. The wait staff were very professional and serious, but friendly, and they let us take our time with our group of friends with young children. There wasn't quite a fixed menu, although much of the offerings simply showed up after a brief explanation. We all agreed that we had never seen food prepared in this way or in these combinations. The meal began with some interesting fried balls prepared with anchovies, tartufo, and blue cheese, along with some breads including fresh field herbs and tomatoes. This was followed by an incredible soup of blended fresh green peas, herbs, and fresh cheese. The colors were brilliant and the taste was equally brilliant. Next was a small plate of mashed purple potatoes topped with porcini mushrooms and fava beans, again with incredible taste, colors, texture, and presentation. Several of us had their pasta offering, which was tagliolini with field herbs (including mint), and others had bacala or a wonderful lemon chicken (from a locally raised bird). The next offering included a couple of blue cheeses with a sweet broccoli puree; if you love broccoli, this offering will be unforgettable (well, for me, it was also unforgettable...). Each of the individual dishes was paired with a different selection of house-made bread. The desserts consisted of several different torts, one of which was also made with the sweet broccoli puree; several in our group raved about this one. The chef, who was apparently working single-handedly in the kitchen, has clearly earned her reputation for preparing unique dishes, using fresh local ingredients. Her selection and pairing of ingredients are unlike anything any of us had ever experienced, and the overall dining experience was more like something one would expect to find in a very highly rated restaurant in a larger city. In addition, the restaurant happily provided our children with a different meal, and a member of our group with special dietary needs was brilliantly accommodated. If you are anywhere near Megaron, you should find a way to visit, especially if you enjoy broccoli.
