Review of Wyndham Torquay
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Mar 2021
We arrived mid week without a booking so are happy we were able to secure a room for a couple of nights when Torquay was very busy. (I am guessing Victorians were happy to not be locked down any more and didn't care if it was holidays or not!)

Our room (147 on the ground floor) overlooked the ocean however as has been noted in previous reviews these rooms are no more than 50 metres from the Esplanade and were very noisy until late into the night and then again early as the walkers made their way to the town for their morning coffee.

No breakfast available so you have to leave the hotel for brekky. Not a bad thing as Torquay has some great spots.

Good secure parking included. WiFi did not work, albeit we did receive a notice saying someone would be entering our room over our stay as part of a Wifi upgrade).

May have been a "resort" prior to Covid but could not really make that claim now.

Room Tip: Do not boom a room facing the ocean

Thank you Steve for your review and coming across from Adelaide.

Great to read that we could look after you, we have been very busy of late, and loved that we were able to have a room available for your short stay.

Yes, our wifi has now been upgraded which will also provide guests with a more efficient movie system and our new virtual assistant Holly (think of her as our version of Siri) is now at guests disposal 24 hours a day. She can't cook breakfast though, but our new chef coming in the coming weeks will be bringing breakfast back to life.

We hope to welcome you back soon, and hopefully you will have a better experience.

Regards,
Cameron

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay. Our room was very large with a sofa, huge bathroom and very comfortable King bed plus it was very quiet. The location was spot on opposite the beach and a sort walk to really good restaurants and shops. It was too cool to swim but the spa was great. 2 minor suggestions - the spa could have been warmer and when busy the pool could do with more banan lounges with umbrellas. Overall we would really recommend a stay here.

Visited the pool bar for a light meal.
Badly under staffed. Told to wait half an hour before we could order. Staff frazzled.
Insufficient glasses for the wine, so had to wait before we could have the wine we ordered.
Meal took a fair while to arrive and very mediocre.
A big disappointment as we used to frequent this venue frequently a couple of years ago .

Thank you Rodney,

Sorry to read about your experience in our pool bar. This is valuable feedback as we strive to make our services more slicker. I think I know the day you mentioned, the bar was unusually quite busy that day which meant the team were kept on their toes. I will certainly spend some time with them on best practices on what to do when they get busy all of a sudden.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Cameron

This place isn’t a resort it’s more an overpriced kids club in dire need of a makeover.

- No breakfast available, there is a very basic cafe that is open from 10am serving snacks and light lunch options. Only had coffee from here which was terrible.
- Pool is like kid soup from the moment it opens until it closes (which is late) and if your room is near the pool all you hear is screaming and running kids and teenagers.
- No umberallas or side tables around the pool so even if you do want to spend some time trying to relax by the pool if you could stand the cheap plastic lounges you can’t because you have nowhere to put your things and you get burnt to a crisp.
- Our room had an issue with the door whereby anytime someone opened a door in the hallway our door would semi open. The maintenance person came and semi fixed it by drilling a big hole in it.
- The couches in the rooms (we had two rooms during our stay) were revolting. Old, uncomfortable, stained and smelly.
- Beds were either two single beds pushed together or and old, cheap, uncomfortable king bed.
- Stains on the carpet
- Crap shower pressure
- Thin walls, our neighbours kept us up until 2am
- Ocean view rooms come with super loud constant traffic noise.
- Holes in fly screen doors
- Cheap tv’s with only free to air channels
- WiFi impossible to use
- The air con units seemed to be shared so when our neighbours had theirs on we had to deal with the loud unit outside our bedroom
- hallways smell and the carpets in the halls and lifts are disgusting and need to be replaced immediately

Staff was great and they did what they could to help us when we spoke to them about issues, it’s not their fault.

For the price I was beyond disappointed and wish I spent our babymoon elsewhere. I slept horribly and came home feeling awful, not well rested which is what I thought I was paying near $400 a night for and heavily pregnant.

I hope all Wyndham resorts aren’t this bad!!!

Mixed feelings about my recent stay. Firstly, the pros. It is close to the beach, a short walk to the town centre and the Wyndham staff were lovely. Now for the cons. The rooms smelt and no matter how much airing they had, the signature stench would not dissipate. The rooms are tired and I never felt truly clean in the place.

Thank you for staying with us recently and your feedback.

We have done extensive deep cleaning of all our rooms, so the smell you encountered, which may have been from a previous guest cooking, will have well and truly gone away by now. Apologies though that we could not attend to it during your stay.

We hope to welcome you back to to Torquay soon.

Arrived on Friday afternoon
Front desk understaffed for Friday
Free parking a nightmare as permanent residents seem to take all parking
General hotel appearance was dirty, in fact there was take away rubbish in lift for a couple of hours.carpets in the hallways stained
Noisy residents in middle of the night , no staff to call
Remote for tv stopped working and couldn’t call front desk as was closed.
Left a sour taste in my mouth for the whole Wyndham experience.
Will not return in a hurry to this resort even though it’s only 45 minutes from home and perfect weekend get away

Big letdown after staying at other Wyndham accomodation in Australia and Fiji

Thank you for your feedback.

Sorry to read that your stay with us recently was not the pleasant stay we have become famous for. Our front desk is manned 24 hours a day, and are always on hand if you need any assistance overnight.

We hope you reconsider and make that short drive back to Torquay for a more pleasant stay next time.

Kind regards,
Cameron
