We found everything we wanted I here, including local maps and suggestions of what to do from the helpful lady behind the counter. She told us that seeing the nightly return of the Shearwaters to Griffith Island was a must, and she wasn't wrong!

Great place to visit. About 5hrs drive from Melbourne with a break.
If you enjoy fish and chips? The best in Port Fairy is eastern beach over the bridge. Coffee can be very expensive on weekends and holiday time. I found a really great bar in the main street. Its down a ally way next to the Pizza shop. Great service at reasonable prices. You can also order a meal.
Big 4 caravan park would be one the best we have stayed at. If you happen to be in a tent? Make sure you drive the pegs down firmly. Because it can become very windy. Caravaners watch your anex. Other than that Port Fairy is a great place to visit and stay.
Regards, Dave.

Run by volunteers but boy do they know their stuff. Something you want to do or see just ask if they don't know you most likely cant do it. even have a flag on a pole to let you know when the whales are in the bay.
