The water in Lorne is always ice-cold, but that doesn't seem to stop many from braving it down at Lorne Beach; those blue and turquoise waters are just too hard to pass up. With hills rolling in the background, and sand stretching between them its just too hard to resist. There's grass to lie on if sand isn't your thing, and large public loos which is always handy. Whether you love swimming or not, its worth popping down and just taking it all in.

What a great beach, can pretty much surf right in town!
So clean and only a little bit of seaweed around.
We’ll definitely be back again when the weather warms up again.

The beach offers a fantastic scenery with reasonably great waves to surf. There are local markets on public holidays that you can purchase from home made leather belts or vegetables and food. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants right across the road (the Great Ocean Rd.) as well. The only drawback during the public holidays is the long queue entering the Lorne city (it took 35 minutes to drive 3km ending to the Lorne beach). Have your swimming suits and surfing board because local shops are a bit expensive (relatively speaking). By the way, there are limited parking areas, first come first serve.

Visited on Wednesday 28th February. We stopped off in Lorne to have a rest and walk along the beach. It is a safe beach with a surf club/beach patrols and toilet/changing rooms in the old swimming pavilion. Plenty of parking and close to shops in main street.
