We found Sea Change by accident while browsing the web for accommodation in Cairns. This was our first trip to Cairns and were guided by the positive comments by previous reviewers on TripAdvisor. Sea Change certainly lived up to its reputation. The first thing we can say is that it was competitive price-wise. For a fully self-contained apartment right on the beach, it was cheaper than some room-only accommodation in the middle of Cairns. The second thing is location. Trinity Beach is about 25 minutes north of Cairns CBD. It cost us $55 by taxi from the airport. We knew nothing about the beach. It is simply beautiful. Our apartment had a large roof top balcony and we could look across the road, through the palm trees, right onto the ocean. Some excellent restaurants are located within 5 minutes’ walk, and the local shopping centre is a Night Owl. You can drive 10 minutes to a larger shopping centre with Woollies, Coles, Kmart, cinema and smaller shops. Port Douglas is about 50 mins drive, so the location is reasonably central to all the tourist sites. Thirdly, Sea Change is very pleasing architecturally. It has a lot of Balinese style features including pergolas, grass roof shelters, timber beams and an internal water course. The apartments are incredibly spacious. The kitchen is modern with European appliances and heaps of cooking implements - full saucepan set, microwave dishes, plasticware, electric wok, electric frying pan, juicer, blender, double size toaster, kettle, coffee machine, rice cooker, slow cooker, microwave, and dishwasher and full size fridge. The bedroom is a comfortable size, king size bed, comfy pillows, two large robes with full size mirrors, and the ensuite has shower, twin wash basins, and a two-person spa bath. Our apartment was 2-bedroom, so the lounge had seating for 5 people, a decent TV (I think about 55 inch LCD), and doors led out to a roof top balcony, which had a BBQ area, shaded seating, and full-sun seating and large palms in huge pots to provide privacy. Downstairs, the pool was amazing, with a sheltered spa, pool lounge chairs, and another BBQ area (with external shower and toilets). Finally, what made our time at Sea Change memorable were the staff. Interactions were always friendly and helpful. Bookings for tours were organised at the reception. We stayed at Sea Change for 2 1/2 weeks and recommend hiring a vehicle if you don't already have one. We also had groceries delivered and our fridge filled before arriving. The service is on the website. We recommend it.
