We stayed at the Seachange Beachfront Apartments in Trinity Beach N of Cairns for 5-nights in mid-Apr (A$253/night). Trinity Beach, an affluent little town, was small – the beach-front had only a couple of restaurants and a pub, with most of the other amenities a 5-min drive back toward the highway. Excellent if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay away from it all, but for a bit more excitement with lots of restaurants, bars & shops, try Palm Cove or Port Douglas.
Tucked away at the S end of the Esplanade, the Seachange was a 4-story complex arrayed around a pool and facing the beach (all of the rooms faced the pool or beach). The complex had a Thai theme, with figurines atop cabanas, teak furnishings & water features in the common areas (the apartments were individually owned, so had their own decors).
We were upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite on the 2nd floor, one of the end ones with the huge patios. Did I say huge? You could play a field hockey game on this thing with room to spare. And the rest of the suite was to the same scale (we had to remember where we put things, or it could take a while to search them down). We entered into a foyer & its occasional table; the kitchen than swept off to the right, its entire front open onto the sitting/dining area (2 steps down) with views through the huge glass doors onto that patio. Past the kitchen on the same level was the 2nd bedroom (queen bed & side tables, chest of drawers, large closet with drawers & hangers), the 2nd bathroom (very large shower), & a closet with washer-dryer & sink. To the other side down 2-steps (stylish, but a bit of a pain after a couple of days) was the master bedroom – very spacious with a king bed & side tables and, in a short hallway to the en suite bathroom, 2 large closets with drawers and hangers. The bathroom was large with a marble vanity & 2 sinks, a huge jetted tub and a somewhat small shower.
The kitchen was fully equipped – stove & oven, dishwasher, microwave, etc. and a huge selection of cutlery, flatware and pots. The living/dining room was sparsely furnished, with a table & 4 chairs, casting couch, 2 stuffed chairs, couch, coffee table & flat-screen TV. There was central AC in the living area with separate AC units in the bedrooms, and overhead fans in all three areas.
The patio had a large table & 6 chairs in a covered area, then another patio table with umbrella & 4 chairs, 4 comfortable loungers & your own BBQ unit. There was a view to both the beach & pool, but they were both a bit “peak-a-boo” around shrubs and planters.
Amenities included a nice pool (although it got a bit crowded with only 10 loungers) & a library for books and DVD's. An irritant about the complex was the “self-catered” approach, something that we did not see on the website. For our 5-day stay, there was no refreshing of the room (same sheets, towels) or replacement of toilet paper, lotions & shampoos, and we had to take the garbage out to the dumpster. They also had irritating charges for some amenities - $5 for a DVD, $5 for a pool towel. Neither of these were what I would expect of a rental in this price range.
Overall, this was a very expensive option for a small town but, with the exception of a couple of irritants, it generally delivered value for the price.
