“Lovely villa - but not for little kids”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

We went to Burleigh Beach in February with our daughter, son-in-law and two little boys and, not being into camping, booked a villa at the Tourist Park. Parking was available in front of the villa and it was only a short walk to the shops and famous Burleigh Beach as well as the rain forest walk around Burleigh Heads. It's a short drive to Tallebudgera Creek which is great for little kids too.

The villa was very nice and clean with all amenities including washer & dryer. Kitchen was adequately equipped and there was a barbecue and sink on the upstairs verandah. The air-conditioning was excellent although the back bedroom with the bunks did not have air-con, only a little wall mounted fan. Both bedrooms were downstairs with the kitchen and living areas upstairs. The villa had only one bathroom and an ensuite would make the stay for a family easier but it didn't really present a problem to us.

I would suggest families with little children think very carefully before booking one of these villas as we were concerned about a few issues. Firstly, the stairs inside were quite steep and there was no railing to hold on to. We felt uneasy carrying the 3month old baby up and down these. Also there was no gate at the top and while the 3 year old managed the stairs, we had to be vigilant when he was wandering around. The "railings" on the verandahs (see photo) were horizontal stretched wire - easy for the 3 year old to climb up and to push through, so again, there was no relaxing while he was around. I did complete their satisfaction survey so hope some of these issues are fixed.

However, for families with older children or couples, the villas would be great accommodation - new, modern and great location. Office staff were very friendly and accommodating too.

We went camping at the park for six nights over the school holidays - the sites are great - very shaded and secluded - the only drawback is that car access is a bit limited to the sites and you need to be organised. The toilet block was great and all the facilities were maintained and in good working order - we used the internet, the laundries, the camp kitchen and hired some bicycles -all were used to great success. The extra activities that the staff of the caravan park put on for free were fantastic - the hotdog lunch and the kids movie night were a fantastic bonus.

The location is great with Burleigh beach and all of the facilities just a short walk away. Finally the staff were very helpful and never lost their cool with the long lines of people at the office at the office needing attention. All in all a great place to camp in the middle of the action at the southern end of the Gold Coast.
