The host Mandy is great, she will accommodate your needs if possible, the motel is aging but clean and functional. Unfortunately the golf course Resturant nearby is changeable and you never know what your going to get. The Hermitage Motel is great value.

The room was very old and not clean. The restaurant was close. AC didn't work very well, and TV was CRT! (I haven't seen CRT TV for the last 10 years!) The door looked so thin.
I picked up this hotel because I couldn't find other options, but I won't choose this place anymore.

OMG I have never experienced a stay like this in all my years of traveling about.

I am a part of a social motorcycle group (average age 50+) who stayed at this hotel for 2 nights over the long weekend with their families, wives children and grand children. Our activities officer (who is a professional travel agent) booked the 20 odd rooms after making sure that there were no workers staying when we were, as she explained that we would like to have a "car park party" from around 5 pm to 9-10 pm depending on how tired we all are on the second night (at no time was she told that this was an issue or there are curfews in place).

So we have pizza at 7pm, a bit of music through 1 speaker (not loud as you could talk and hear easily standing right next to it), music went off around 830pm then about 845pm we all started to talk about going to bed, at which stage there was about 10-12 of us, chatting in a group.

We are in the middle of saying goodnight to each, then at around 10 past 9 this guy barges into the middle of the group and says ""shut it down you are making too much noise, shut it down now".

One of the guys says "yeah mate we are about to go to bed" to which this moron demands "no you will all go to bed NOW".

We don't even know who this guy is, he did not have the decency to introduce himself, he just barges in and starts making demands. Then as he goes on with his demands he says that he has had complaints, so at that stage we assume he is a manager.

Being a family focussed group and quite shocked with his behaviour, we pack up and start to say our goodnights: at just after 9pm on the sunday of a long weekend.
But there in the dark is the creepy manager leaning on a car just watching us waiting.

Most people have gone and there is only myself and a couple of girls standing at the end of the carpark around a torch waiting for one of the boys to finish a smoke. Being put off by this guy watching us and hoping to resolve the issue, the man in the group goes over to him to reassure him that we were finished and will be retiring.

This weirdo advised him that "we had to go to our rooms now, if we wanted to talk".
This is a problem because:

1. the rooms aren't big enough to swing a cat let alone entertain
2. I have not been sent to my room for over 55 years and how dare this individual demand I go to my room/cell.
3. If I failed to comply with his demands what was he going to do, manhandle me into my room and lock the door?
However to keep the peace we all complied and ended our night.

We stood there talking for maybe another 5 min huddled around a torch gobsmacked with the behaviour, during which he skulked in the dark, leaning on the car watching me and the other girls: just staring.

Needless to say I found this behaviour to be very intimidating, highly inappropriate and downright disrespectful. From the outset all he had to do was act like a reasonable human being, speak to us with respect, like adults do and he would have had the same result but with a much more positive outcome.

This place obviously makes its money off the regular miners as there are "take off work boots" signs on the doors and they claim to be in the business of "selling sleep" and have a noise policy in place (that doesn't exist on their policies page nor can it be sourced through some rigorous googling).
If that is the case fine, but don't pretend to be family friendly or accommodating and accept bookings from people with children (who they also complained about riding their scooters in the afternoon) and groups that you are advised will be having a car park party.

The rooms themselves were clean and the cleaning staff I met were very lovely. They need to improve the shower that was either scalding or freezing, there was only 1 extra blanket (no electric blankets on the beds and it was freezing), the AC was on for a few hours and did nothing, and the beds were very firm (good for some) as were the pillows (neck pain the next day).

All in all keep clear of this place and the intimidating, inappropriate manager with a penchant for staring at women from the shadows until they comply with his demands to go to bed NOW!

Room tip: Just don't. Keep going and find somewhere else

I stayed here for 4 nights while working in Muswellbrook. The rooms are large and clean but are dated. Plenty of out door parking. I had a room in the back of the motel which was good as I think the front one's would be noisy as the Highway is just out the front. The price was more than the room was worth, but Muswellbrook accommodation is overpriced. The onsite restaurant was not open during my stay and there isn't may close by.

We stayed overnight in Musswellbrook at The Hermitage. The room was outdated and tired looking but it was clean and contained good facilities. Plenty of coffee, tea and sugar; iron and board; hairdryer; toiletries; wifi; airconditioning. The linen was clean and the bed comfortable. The price was reasonable and the location was good. The room decor could benefit from an update but this is no doubt costly. I would stay again if I traveled back this way.

Family of 4 stayed overnight en route to Devils Ark in Barrington Tops. Room was very clean if not a tad crampt for a family of 4. The air con took about 10 mins to start blowing cold and even then it took ages to cool down the room. Very small niggle. We used the pool which was tepid but most welcome on a 43 degree day. Staff very friendly as well. Seems to be popular for workies due to amount of utes in the car park but it was very quiet indeed. The 9j site restaurant was closed so we drive up to the local RSL which was very nice indeed. Again, extremely friendly and the prices were very reasonable.

I'd definitely recommend The Hermitage for that overnight stay.
