We discovered this place by accident as it is in an arcade and we came in out of the rain and wind. It looked cosy and there were wine glasses on tables so we thought it was licensed. Unfortunately it was closed at the time so we went back the next day. Despite being designated a table close to the main door with patrons letting the cold breezes linger and then finding out it is not a licensed restaurant, we absolutely loved it. The food was delicious. Duck special was very special and prices were very reasonable. Modern Asian cuisine with lots of options. A surprise find.

We, 6 of us, had a fabulous dinner in this restaurant during our visit to the Leura Flower Festival. The restaurant was tucked in a side street, but once you got in, you would feel cozy and comfortable. The service was great.
We had Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Thai Spicy Fish Cake as our starters. Both were very good.
For our main dishes, we had the Exotic Kulaway Seafood Curry, Tom Yum Chicken Fried Rice, Thai Green Curry, Stirred Fried Beef, Pad Thai Noodle and BN Gouy-Gia Noodle. All were very good. The presentation for the Seafood Curry was very special, being served in a whole coconut. We particularly liked the BN Gouy-Gia Noodle and Pad Thai Noodle.
Our whole night was rounded off happily with 3 desserts shared among us six - Pandan Tapioca Sago, Black Sticky Rice Pudding, and Flourless chocolate cake.

Draft this in June. I have been up the mountains three times in 4 months. Every time I've been here. It is real good food , great value. And stays open past 8pm. Which is unusual for sleepy katoomba. Extensive menu with Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese. All our meals were great quality, good presentation and generous. size. Satay chicken entree had excellent peanut sauce. The chicken and cashew nut stir fry was really good. Beef in black bean sauce was very good. It’s not licences so must byo. We went on a cold night and they only had tables outside in a half closed in arcade area. But there were heaters and it was fine. So don’t be put off if these are the only tables they have available when you ring up to book. We had a vegetarian vegan in group and there was plenty of options. I’ll be going back. See photo , crispy fish. Superb.

There is an extensive menu on offer...however all the dishes we ordered were drowned in too many sweet sauces.

As chef's we have eaten at many restaurants and have only once before eaten at the same restaurant 2 nights in a row...Basil Nut has a wonderful South East Asian inspired menu with every dish (8 in total over the 2 nights) was fantastic with a great balance of flavour and texture with a modern presentation. We wish we had something even close to this where we live.
The staff were great and the pricing was reasonable with generous serves. We went twice because we could not decide what to have in one night.
For a unique dining experience, enjoying great flavours Basil Nut is a must visit.
Down a narrow arcade, woolworths end of Katoomba.
