“Clean, comfortable, good value - poor sound insulation”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed here a couple of nights in the family suite. The unit was aging, but still very clean and comfortable with 2x flat-screen TV and a good-sized fridge. The hotel is located on the main road, but road noise was not a problem - unlike noise from the neighboring unit where one could hear even them plugging in their phones for charging. Mostly our neighbors were quiet, but this can potentially be a real issue.

Note that the "2 bedroom" description is a bit misleading in that it's really just one big room with a bed and one bedroom with two beds, not two bedrooms per se.

Thank you for your feedback.

We would disagree with the statement that our deluxe family unit is aging - we have had the unit repainted within the last 12 months, along with new carpet, modern air con, and the installation of 2 new flat screen LCD/LED televisions. We would agree that our bathrooms could be regarded as aging, however we are in the middle of our bathroom renovation programme for the deluxe section, which we expect to be completed by mid march 2012.

In regards to noise - we have always been complimented on how quiet our property is, and I note that this hasn't been a problem for the other trip advisor reviews. I understand that you have given us 5 out of 5 for sleep quality - which we would consider is the main goal for our guests.

Our description of this room is a Deluxe Family Room, and on all the internet booking sites we describe it as a room with a queen bed and three single beds over 2 rooms i.e.: it is a room within a room. You may have thought this was an Interconnecting room, where there is 2 motels rooms side by side, with 2 front doors, and a door through the common wall. We have never described our deluxe family room in this way, either online or verbally over the phone.

Thank you for your feedback, we always endeavor to improve our motel business, having owned the Alabaster since 2006, and are looking forward to staying here into the future.

We stayed here one night on our mini-road-trip to the mid North Coast of NSW. Our room was on the upper level looking out over the valley. It was clean, comfortable, spacious, quiet and cared for. The owner was friendly and helpful. Yes, a place we would go back to next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper level

We stayed overnight in one of the cheaper rooms at the front of the motel which turned out to be excellent value for the price. Bright, roomy, very clean and comfortable - just what you want. The motel is just outside the main part of town and has great veiws across the paddocks. We took advantage of the table and chairs at the front to try out some local wine (Kalari vineyard). Breakfast recommended by others was good and served hot to our room. Would recommend highly if you're looking for a simple and comfortable stay in Cowra.

Room Tip: Other rooms at the rear of the motel are 2 bedroom, larger with better views (but more expensive).

My partner and I travelled to Cowra for the long weekend. This is our second stay here, and Ian the owner who remembered us, was very friendly and welcoming.

Our first stay was for the Cherry Blossom Festival in 2010, we arrived at 11:30pm, and Ian was very accommodating and considerate towards our late arrival. The room (4) was heated on a cold spring night which added to the cosy factor of this motel. Breakfast served through the small secret door was very cool, and my partner and I vowed we would return just for the amazing generous breakfast! We also liked how the under-cover parking was at the doorstep of our room as well. Felt like home!

Our second stay was as just as amazing, and possibly even better! We arrived in the afternoon, made our dinner and breakfast order, and settled into the exact same room! Like the other reviewers have stated, it is dated, but it is very clean, spacious, and comfortable, so it doesn’t matter. The bar fridge was adequate for us to store large bottles of beverages, not like the mini-bar in hotels. After reading these reviews, I was excited to try the motel’s dinner options, rather than head into town and search for a restaurant. My partner ordered the steak and I ordered the chicken dish, both of which were of a large quantity, home-style cooked, and very delicious. The desserts, the chocolate pudding, and the sticky date pudding were also amazing! The swivel and adjustable TV was of a high quality, many channel options, and we enjoyed watching some shows throughout the stay. Breakfast was just like how we remembered, large quantity and tasty.

Check out, which was more like simply handing the keys to Ian, was so effortless. We spent the rest of the day visiting the Japanese gardens and a wine cellar.

We plan on making annual trips to Cowra to visit the Japanese gardens, and we will definitely stay at Alabaster again!
