Tasmania's gem on the west coast

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 weeks ago
We found this absolute gem on the west coast of Tasmania, a little bit of luxury with everything you could want. We splashed out on the Owen Suite which was delightful with lots of thought in every detail. Congratulations to our hosts Karen and Steve, who were welcoming and full of wonderful stories about the historic Penghana property. Our silver service breakfasts were perfect.

Penghana is a National Trust property built in 1898, offering a glimpse into Tasmania's past.

The rooms are beautifully furnished with mostly antique pieces and extremely comfortable bedding, providing for a cozy and luxurious stay.

The property offers panoramic views of Queenstown and Mount Owen, making it a perfect spot for relaxation.

The silver service breakfasts are cooked to order, ample and very delicious.

The hosts, Karen and Steve are extremely welcoming, very helpful and have a high attention to detail.

Penghana is an excellent base for exploring Tasmania's Western Wilderness, including Cradle Mountain and Strahan. It also offers a very good glimpse into its role as the residence of past General Managers of the Mt Lyell Mines and Railway Company.

Large and comfortable bedrooms with great shared spaces in a historic property, Excellent facilities in the shared guest kitchen with tea, coffee, biscuits as well as sherry and port readily available. Outstanding hosts, for whom nothing seemed to be too much trouble, very helpful with local bookings and suggestions for things to and places to go.
The breakfasts with freshly cooked foods and bakery were a feaure of the days we spent there.

What an amazing property.
Karen and Steve have thought everything you would possibly require. If you like antiques this property is for you. The furniture all through this house is a delight. I can not find one fault.
We plan to return for stay longer than our two nights.

Marvellous grand house from another era and clearly loved by its current owners. Tasteful little details everywhere, oozing history, modern luxuries, sensational food, and very professionally run. If you ever find yourself in the spectacular wilderness of west coast Tasmania...stay at Penghana!!

A surprise overnight stay here as part of an organised tour, en-route to kayak the Gordon River. We were made to feel welcome by hosts Karen and Steve, who told us all about the fascinating history of this stately home, and provided a delicious evening meal and silver-service breakfast. The rooms are luxurious, the beds very comfortable, and lots of little personal touches that make guests feel welcome. Thanks so much for your hospitality!
