We travelled from the UK via Geneva for a wedding in the area and stayed 2 nights. The hotel has been beautifully and stylishly renovated. The owners were very hospitable and spoke impeccable English. Our superior room was lovely, spotlessly clean and quiet, with a large comfortable bed and a well-appointed bathroom. We ate dinner on our first night - the food cooked by Nicholas was delicious, as was the local wine. The dining room is beautiful with really comfortable chairs. Service from Laurence was perfect. There have been a few unfavourable comments from other travellers regarding breakfast; we found it to be just right. There was no shortage of choice and Laurence was keen to bring whatever we wanted (cheese, eggs, fruit) in addition to the generous portion of pastries, bread and yoghurt. It's not a full English breakfast but it was delicious - and this France! The area is very attractive and reportedly has good hiking. I very much hope we have the chance to visit in future to test this out. If we do we would definitely at Maison Zugno again.

We stayed at Maison Zugno on our journey from Italy to the UK so only spent one night, but will definitely try to make it a longer stay next time.
The room was very attractive, and very thoughtfully designed, with plenty of space, seating, drink making facilities and a very comfortable bed. It's a magnificent old property, which has been very tastefully refurbished and it's in a wonderful setting, with all the rooms being at the back and incredibly peaceful.
The hotel is owned by a delightful couple who made us very welcome, and helpful throughout our stay. This included advice about places nearby to eat, as we sadly chose an evening when the restaurant was closed. However, Poligny is an easy five minute drive away and we had no difficulty parking and eating well there. All in all, a lovely stay and we would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The rooms are clean, everything you need is available. Bed is good and the rooms are at the back side of the hotel so there is not too much noise from the busy road. On Monday the restaurant is closed and there is no alternative but to go to nearby villages (7kms or more). Food and wine at dinner are good and prices are reasonable. The only thing we were very disappointed about was breakfast. We got 2 pastries (1 one! Piece for each of us), 1 one! pear and one! Yoghurt for the two of us. The owner told us that there was only one yoghurt left, but the table next to us got one! Yoghurt for four people. Why not make a little menu with extra's one pays for ? Also this place would be so much more attractive if there were nice seats in the garden or maybe in the futute a swimming pool? That's what could make this hotel more then a 'transit' place.

Hello and thank you for your review.

I just want to write some explanations about your comment.

To begin, the fact that our restaurant is closed on Monday is true and it’s written down everywhere on the internet but there is an alternative (snacking) and we proposed it to you!! I don’t understand why you said that no alternative was given...

About the breakfast, the explanation is simple: we put on plate the minimum to avoid waste, but you can ask for more! We are really sorry that we ran out of yogurt the first day..

I just want to say that the breakfast cost 10 euros, and for this price you have:
- 2 different pastries
- 3 kind of bread
- Homemade or local jam, honey and Nutella
- Fruits
- Yogurts
- Coffee, hot chocolate or any kind of beverage
- Orange juice

Do not forget that it isn’t a buffet, Laurence is taking care of you all breakfast long.
Maybe it is not enough for you, but for 10 euros we can’t do more…

For the record, we bought this place 2 years ago and we renovated it during 10 months by ourselves. We are barely open for 1 and a half year now, so we need time to make some improvement.

Kindly regards,

Nicolas

We decided to stay at Maison Zugno for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
We passed by a few times on our way to the north of France and the reviews looked promising-we were not disappointed!
The welcome is very warm-dogs and children are welcome and the rooms are beautifully renovated-with a lot of taste. The rooms are all towards the back, and it's very quiet. We took the big family room, which has a separate kids room which was perfect. Maybe not ideal for very small children as there are stairs up. But they offer as well baby beds if needed.
I loved the products in the bathroom-high quality, like the entire place!
You can see that the owners put their entire heart into the project.
The only down point was breakfast. The choice is very limited: one fruit, one yoghurt for 3 people, when we asked for more bread they were out. The cheese portion is tiny (the cheese is delicious, but 3 micro pieces per person). We were able to get more fruit and yoghurt, but they didn’t look very happy ;-)
Another suggestion would be mosquito nets on the windows-we had a wasp nest outside one of our two windows and therefore could not open it and through the other a lot of Mosquitos came in.
The place is a little gem and I wish the owners a lot of success! With a few tiny improvements this place would be simply perfect!

This is a delightfully restored property located on a main route through the Jura/Franche Comte region - an ideal stopover on the way from Calais to the Alps. The rooms are straighforward but really comfortable and because they are at the rear of the property are really peaceful. The service is friendly and helpful.

Because we were there on a Sunday, we did not eat at the restaurant, but breakfast was ideal - tasty and speedily served.

We will be back.
