Paid in advance and offered a room that had been baking in the sun all afternoon as the shade cloth wasn't there. It was adjacent to the forecourt of the the petrol station where the road trains pull in. On opening the door, I was unable to breath due to the stench of stale air mixed with sprayed room freshener.
I approached the owner requesting something else and was offered another room at the back of the property that I was told was newer. They charged me an extra $20 making it more expensive than the Palms City Resort in Darwin or the Grand Chancellor in Adelaide.
My wife and I spent most of the night scratching as we didn't feel clean. There were frogs in the ensuite, only 2 channels worked on the TV. Fortunately I had bottled drinking water with me as we couldn't trust the discoloured water that came out of the tap and stained the bowl. The air conditioner was so loud I tried to put a pillow of my head. In the end I turned it off. However the one in the adjacent room was still on. The motors for these were underneath the rooms and vibrated the loose boards on the deck outside. No sleep was to be had that night and at first light we left. I originally booked there due to reviews on this website however for us this was a really bad experience. The so called motel rooms are nothing more than small cabins and way over priced. I would guess many people have forgone the deposit and shot through !!
stayed here on a reccomondation from my Friend, what a find, in comparsion to Tennant Creek, Freindly staff, nice clean room with Air con , Flat Screen TVs, etc, very quiet place, great meal in the Roadhouse... I for one will be forgetting Tennat Creek and staying here more often.
Stayed here last night, clean rooms, but basic, Good meals in the restaurant, freindly staff, and best of all no people loitering around, i felt safe there
All up, for outback road house standards, this place is fairly good. The rooms are definitely very basic but this sort of adds to the outback charm. Everything was reasonably clean and there was even a TV with 3 outback stations. This roadhouse is definitely not for those that expect 5 five star luxury, but for great for those on an outback adventure. Unlike some parts on the NT there was no loiterers in the area and it felt safe.
The road house has a restaurant and bar on site. The locals and travellers alike are happy to have a chat over a beer.
