“Our trip tovKakadu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

We recently spent 4 nights at Gagadju, staying in one of the lodge rooms. Arrival and check in went smoothly and we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. Checked into our room, which was basic but fine. We didn't expect four star. The room was clean and has pretty much everything we needed, fridge, tea and coffee facilities, clean bathroom, plenty of towels.

There are two pools, both of which we used and they were presented well and were very clean.

We ate in the restaurant only twice as although the food was fine it was VERY expensive. I think it a little unfair as they have a captive audience if you are staying in the lodge rooms. We had thought ahead and brought breakfast provisions and snack foods for two of the nights. It may be an idea for management to co sider an all inclusive package to include breakfast and dinner.

We did the sunset Yellow Water cruise which was spectacular, thoroughly enjoyable.

We also did a 4WD Adventure Tour which was also good but they did make some mistakes in that they hadn't put enough lunches on board and there wasn't anything for me to eat!! Ruben and Sam (guides) did their best and gave me a piece of fruit and a muffin but I have to say it spoiled it after that as I was ravenous for the rest of the day! I spoke with Louisa on reception when we got back and she was very professional and sorted the mistake out for us. However, I would like to comment to management that when staff also go on the trip (assistant manager I believe), it would have been good manners on his part to have come up and spoken to me about it and to ask if he could be of help. I would most certainly have done this. Apart from that the trip is good but they need to be better organised - just throw a couple of extra lunches on to cover any mishaps.

All in all, we had a nice stay but if we went again we would likely stay in the campsite area adjacent to the lodge as you have all the same facilities for a fraction of the cost.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

We stayed here two nights in a Queen plus single room which was very dingy and in need of an update. It was clean and had plenty of room and the air conditioner worked well. The rooms are in groups of 4 but there was no one else in the other three so was really quiet.
We had a swim in the pool next to the restaurant and was refreshing but the mosquitos were a nightmare so take lots of repellant.
The bistro is an outdoor area and rather shabby but the food was very good and couldnt fault that.
We went on a Yellow water cruise first thing in the morning and was fantastic. It had breakfast included at the resort dining room. The breakfast was basic but OK.
The staff were very good in all areas.
The resort is sitting in the middle of no where so dont expect anything else to do in the area.

Room Tip: This was OK but dont expect too much for your money

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

Please accept my apologies that the resort was not up to your expectations. We have taken on your feedback as we are always trying to improve our guest experience.

As you mentioned our Yellow Water Cruises are a fantastic experience, in particular our sunrise and sunset cruises.

To improve your Kakadu experience even more we will soon be introducing our new Night Tour on Yellow Water, "The Algohgarrng Experience". Uniquely, the cruise will be conducted on the billabong with only stars to light the way. Visitors will learn about the role of celestial bodies in significant life events, including burial rites, and how aborigines used the sky to forewarn them of the change in seasons and to predict tides. There’s no artificial light on the tour, so you can hear barramundi bust the surface to ambush prey or crocodiles on the hunt, but you won’t be able to see them!

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback.

Kind regards,

David Bowen

Powered & non powered camping sites, Toilet facilities were well maintained. Hot showers.
We stayed at non powered sites & felt a little cramped with others, however there was more space to be openned up in coming days. Gas BBQ's & stovetops for use under a communal lit eating area. Plenty of spare space at Powered sites. But Season is just cranking up & drying out.
Mozzies were bad (most of year round) so make sure you have protection. When they come out at dusk they stay out until morning and feel like flies when you wave them away.
We also ate at bistro, food was quick & OK but expensive for what it was. $26+ bucks for a beef burger with chips (it passed my extensive burger test) and this was almost the starting price on the menu, apart from salads etc. Limited kids meals (limited to under 12 year olds) .... getting a plate of chips was not the easiest, but we got there and all bellies were full. We actually took our boat & fished and did our own sunset cruise with family and had a nice time.
Swimming Pool is lovely and the grounds well kept.

An alternative camp is 8 kms away at Mardigul and would suit the backpackers/fishermen that still want a hot shower/toilet quiet camp with nothing else there for $12 bucks a night.

We were pleased you enjoyed our campground and found our amenities clean and well equiped.

Yellow Water Cruises morning and evening a fantastic experience. Accommodation is comfortable, but room was not ready upon arrival, no regular room service. Stay in refurbished room if possible. Food in the bistro ordinary especially when staying more than 2 nights. The swimmingpool however was really lovely.

Room Tip: I wouldn't stay more than 3 nights and make sure you go in the dry season so all the roads are o...
