A recommendation to this winery did not disappoint. We went at 11 because we could and started with the tasting . We moved on to lunch , a seafood tasting platter and marguerite pizza. Beautiful thin base cooked in the wood fire. Staff were friendly and gave us recommendations for our trip from Russell to Tutukaka along the coast. The beautiful coastline is a must drive! Well worth the visit .

3 of us hire kayaks from tony & Dan at the end of paihia. Tony mentions if you can handle the paddle across the harbour, you can land on the muddy shores of Omata estate and walk up a steep drive to a picturesque al fresco dining room at the top looking back over the vineyard and where we had come from.

It is only recently omata had opened back up for dining. Two ladies man the kitchen, one on the wood fired pizza oven, the other in the galley knocking out platters.

Floor service was friendly and made our experience a pleasurable. Being a chef, it was great to have food that was well seasoned. Rose was a must have for lunch!

So with having a road slip between kawakawa and paihia, our mode of transport to okiato wasn’t such a silly idea in the end.

A must do foodie wise when in the bay of islands

We went for lunch , and were surprised at the stunning position of the eatery. Inside or out, the view is downhill along the rows of vines to the estate owned woodland beyond and the shimmering waters of the Bay of Islands. We had excellent thin crust pizzas, a delicious sharing platter of sweets and fabulous wine. Service excellent! Take time after eating to walk through the estate to the lookout point.

My wife and I visited Omata after enjoying their Pinot Gris earlier. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. After a complimentary wine tasting, we chose the Kitchen Platter share plate with one glass 2017 Pinot Gris and one of 2015 Syrah.
These choices were inspired! The platter was both tasty and generous and the wines were exceptional. With only a few days left of our tour in NZ, we did buy a few bottles of each to enjoy before our flights home. Thoroughly recommended!
