It's clean, comfortable and very friendly, plus it's reasonably priced, what more could you want. Ask, upon arrival, for breakfast at different time, it's no problem. Ask for towels and
room to be serviced daily, it' s no problem. The hospitality is second to none. A great place to stay, I certainly had one of the best holidays of my life. Recommended to everyone.

We had visited some time ago and were expecting to see a lot of improvements but were disappointed.

The host is very welcoming and friendly and always ready with a cup of tea and some advice on where to go and what to see.

If you like old houses with plenty of character you will enjoy your stay. However, there are some things to note. Our bathroom was very small with barely enough room to turn around in and nowhere to store things. The window was stuck so there no fresh air coming in. The room was musty and must have been closed up for a while. The linen was ordinary and the bedspread had holes in it. The bed was comfortable. We could smell cooking in our room. The room was not serviced and there was not offer of fresh towels.

Breakfast is ONLY at 8 am (bit like boarding school) and was very plain. If you go outside to hang out your washing you will have to step over a huge pile of recycling rubbish that has obviously been building up for a while. The garden is sadly neglected.

It’s a pity, but we think the host has lost interest….. So where to from here?

Just had a fun couple of days in Oamaru (who knew it was such a fun/interesting town - check out the local Steampunk group activities!!!). We were 2 couples and we booked two double rooms with a shared bathroom in this lovely old house, for a very reasonable rate - which included a very nice continental breakfast each morning. You can also book one of these rooms with a private bath (assume that means the other bedroom is left empty, so you get a small suite) for a small additional cost. The bedrooms are reasonable size, with comfortable beds and great period decor. In fact the whole house is crammed with period furniture and memorabilia. Guests also get to use a number of living areas, so there is a lot of space available. The house is an easy stroll from the historic district, restaurants and town centre. And Ian is a friendly host who goes out of his way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Couldn't fault the place - especially fpor the money!

We needed somewhere to stay for the night and happened to come across this great place.

The host was very friendly and the house is wonderful. We had a really nice room and great breakfast. We ate at nearby cafes.

All the nicnacs and furnishings give the house the great feel. No doubt in time it will come back to something near its original state. We are now looking forward to our next visit in 2011 and this time we will stay longer....
