We decided not to pay for this experience due to the staff working. We spent a good 40 minutes here exploring and walking the breakwater watching the seals. We found a deceased seal and decided to stop in, check tour prices for later and inform the staff of the seal. We were met with an abrupt “that has nothing to do with us”. Fair enough - was told that DOC had been informed but when I rang to follow up with the local DOC office they hadn’t heard a thing about the deceased seal which according to the colony staff had been there for days.
We were greatly disappointed with the attitude of staff. For people involved with animals their callous attitude towards the seals was disappointing.
Sure the show may be about penguins but an attitude towards all wildlife would have been a better drawcard.
Staff didn’t want to sell us the tour, made no effort to inform us of options and gave a terrible vibe of ‘go away’ as soon as we mentioned the seal.
Very disappointing experience. Save your money and go during the day, check out the seals (for free) and check out the penguins elsewhere along the coast.
