A real gem!

This beautiful little hotel was a chance find and we couldn't have been happier. An old house, lovingly furnished with antique furniture, a room that was spacious and cozy, great bathroom. We loved it right away. Mandy and John welcomed us warmly and miniature dachshund Lily was just adorable. Not only was the whole house inviting and full of warmth, but the small garden, carefully tended, gave us a family feeling. Parking right in front of the hotel on the street was hassle free. The breakfast, cooked to our liking, was delicious. This was a real stroke of luck for us. Anytime again!

We have never been to Portland before now. It is one of the places me and my husband think has been bypassed and understated. People know about Warnambool, Great Ocean Road, Geelong and Adelaide and in betweeen those big towns ... seems a blur and that is where Portland is situated, in between Melbourne and Adelaide, about 3.5 hours drive from Melbourne.

Portland used to be a whaling town, infact the cauldrons used were displayed in the town itself, gross but that was the town’s entry to history... whaling.

From our campsite, everything’s walking distance, the town the playground, stunning view of the sea and... view of the logging and wood chips being loaded to cargo ships etc.
We have never seen the whole lorry being tipped up to a very acute angle to unload its cargo. Portland seems to be a dog friendly place and everyone seems to own dogs. Brings me joy to see dogs play free frolicking by the beach and be with other friendly dogs.

Coffee shops, restaurants and places of business are dotted all over Portland. It doesn’t feel like retirement place but there’s something for everyone I think. For the adventurous, there are hikes available to all levels of physical abilities, for the coffee and food lovers like us, there are coffee shops and boutique restaurants. For the dog lovers, the beach!

The drive itself from Melbourne is quite relaxing.

Stayed there only for one night in a sea view split level apartment. Quite spacious for 3 of us. Bedrooms are upstairs where you can spot sun rise and sun set easily. Room are all cleans with heaps of storages which you hardly find anywhere else. Two toilets which is quite convenient. Close to shops and restaurants. Only 20mn drive to Bridgewater cape which is highly recommended to see. Nice view from balcony over port. Weather is excellent. Nice welcome message from ownwer Leigh.Quick reply too. Excellent and reasonable price Vietnamese restaurant in less than 3mn drive. Definitely will come back to a nice town and stay here again

Stayed one night are driving from Adelaide - key under the mat on arrival (good old fashion security). Well appointed with washing machine and dryer, easy walk to the shops but the weather wasn't playing ball.

Views of the beach across the road (and the port!) - would stay here again

My husband made this booking and when we arrived I was pleasantly delighted! The overall cleanliness was pretty good - the bedroom being separate and at the rear of the unit made for a pleasant sleep. There was everything you needed if you wanted to do your own cooking, washing etc - the view was fabulous and it was private - very happy!

Room tip: We asked for a balcony and got one.

We were emailed clear instructions how how to access the property and considereing the price the accomodation us excellent.
There was a spacious twin and double room with the double having a balcony overlooking towards the harbour.

The kitchen had all the cutlery and pots and pans you would require.

Only downside is it is a little dated and furniture is functional but basic.

Would definitly return
