Review of The Club

The Club
Ranked #15 of 59 Restaurants in Thames
Price range: USD 2 - USD 20
Description: Owner and international Chef, Marcel answered local demand and opened a new restaurant with a touch of class in his adopted home town of Thames. Located in the historical Thames Club building on the corner of Mary and Mackay Sts, you can choose to dine at large mahogany style dining tables with a group, tuck up on a leather couch in front of the fire in the lounge bar or relax under the shady trees in the courtyard. The menu is simple but delicious and changes regularly. The beverage selection is a step above the norm and will not leave you disappointed. Having trained & worked in the Netherlands, Marcel brings a large repertoire of international flavours to draw on and infuses them deliciously into our good ole kiwi kai. He is also available for catering your special functions, either at The Club or your venue.

Nice place with plenty of varied seating arrangements.... even by the open fire!!. Enjoyed my lamb salad, and my daughter said the chicken fettuccine was the best :)

My husband and I had an impromptu lunch date today at the Club. First thing that impressed us was the roaring fire and cosy fireside seating-so inviting on a cold winter's day but there were also sunny window seats to sit in and enjoy the natural heating. The decor is vintage country club and its especially perfect for winter gatherings. I chose the smaller size smoked salmon salad wrap and wished I had chosen the larger size - the flavours were amazing! very delicious Moccacino too, Service was prompt and efficient. Will certainly be going back there to try out other things on the menu.

Hospitality was zero......food platters were just average @ $21 per head for 38 people ...... barely enough to go around but was advised $21 a head would allow 8 or 9 pieces of food per head. no plates..... No serviettes until we asked for some & got thrown a box with some in it.
Really felt like were were imposing and totally in their way.....
Wished we had not gone there at all....Very disgusted and very disappointed.

Dropped in for lunch after having been there several times before. Always found the food options and service excellent. Disappointing to find that on this occasion both were found wanting. We ordered omelettes thinking that they would be quick to make and we could get on with our shopping. We suspect our order was missed and they took half an hour or more to be delivered. ( It wasn't as if the place was overly busy.) My wife's dish looked appetizing but mine looked as though it had stuck to the pan and had been scrapped out and put on the plate. The saving grace was that they both tasted OK. Monteith's Cider which I regularly drink, was on tap but it lacked fizz and tasted as though it had been 'watered down.' We are not put off eating at the Club in the future and realise that we all have bad days, but as I said, it was a disappointing experience on this occasion.
