A quaint cafe just off the road. We stop here on our way to Auckland to grab a takeaway coffee usually. We love the scones, either savoury or date. The toilets are always clean. Staff are usually busy and we have always found them to be polite and friendly. The parking is good, there is a lovely playground for the children and dogs can be watered and sit with their owners.

More than it looks from the main road. Playground for smaller kids out the back, great selection of food, but a longish wait for cooked stuff if your later in the afternoon, which makes sense I guess as they wind down.

Worth stopping in for.

Discovered this place a year or so ago, have stopped in for coffee or lunch three times since. Loads of parking (even for caravans), dog and child friendly. Ideal location midway between Auckland and BoP/Taupo. Extensive menu, good coffee. Very popular with travellers and tourists, mix of indoor and covered outdoor seating. Good quality souvenirs/local produce and preserves available, nicely set out in what was once the bedrooms of this converted villa. Biggest downside are the little flies, especially outside. Appreciate this the Waikato countryside but they need to look into IR zappers or the like. Also note; listed as Thames but it's actually at Mangarata, some 22 km from Thames on State Highway 2 near the junction with State Highway 27.

It’s a quaint place to stop. Used to be a lot more rustic and interesting now been renovated but still nice with a good outdoor area.
Just wish they’d wiped our table down when they cleared it as the flies are everywhere and loving the cream. See pic. The flies put us off ordering food unfortunately just had a cup of tea. Had to leave quickly as they wouldn’t leave us alone. Noticed everyone around with the same problem covering their food with serviettes or constantly swiping.
Feel like asking for my money back to be honest as not even finishing my tea.
You need some sort of fly deterrent guys. It’s a serious problem!
See the little buggers on our cups!

With our UK based family we had a lunch stop and then an afternoon tea stop over 10 days. Lovely place with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Great food and coffee.
