Description: Barney Allen's is warm, friendly mix of cool bar and local pub. It is one of St Kilda's most established businesses. Whether you are after a bite to eat at the bar, Melbourne's best burger, terrific cocktails and beer list or a full 3 course meal, this place can cater to your every need. There is live music on weekends, poker on Saturdays and always great people to have a chat to. It is a must visit place for tourists as well as the local locals local

Always good, always local, Barney Allen's is exceptional at staying the same. My first visit was 5 years ago, and the standard remains.

“Friendly staff and locals, and Huey's mushrooms!”
Reviewed 14 June 2015

Visiting Melbourne after a long sojourn and discovered that Mirka, previously run by chef Ian Hewitsen, was no more. How fab to discover that he was now associated with Barney Allen's - just down the road!
Popped in for a coffee and his 'world famous' deep fried mushrooms and the memories came flooding back. Met some super friendly locals, caught up on some of the St Kilda restaurant history, and had a super, albeit far too short, visit.
Will definitely return to Barney Allen's next time we're in Melbourne!!

“Must resist ordering the entire menu...”
Reviewed 27 April 2015

This is one of my favorite restaurants/bars. I am never disappointed by the food or the service. My partner and I went here for lunch on Sunday and had resisted from ordering too many entrees (this time) and shared the mushrooms and a Barney Allen's burger with fries. The staff are always friendly and helpful and made a "Cool Runnings" cocktail - Mint, ginger beer and rum; Yum Yum!! and so refreshing! A cocktail jug was only $25!!

“Um Ok, no rush to return”
Reviewed 31 January 2015

Not sure what all the fuss is about. 4 of us went for dinner

As the burger was one of the most recommended menu items, 3 were ordered with the other meal being the fried chicken sandwich. Now considering that the restaurant was not that busy, even though it was a Saturday night. The burgers were very, very average. They more looked liked giant meat balls and had the similar texture to one. They were also extremely dry as they had been cooked to death and that was not through our choice.

$13 for just a hamburger is pretty steep and the price is pushed up when adding fries to $16 so there is some expectation. In saying that the condiments on the burger were tasty however they did not really help the dryness of the burger.

The chicken sandwich was tasty but some of the flavours did get lost behind the strength of the wasabi mayonnaise.
The service was good, but the atmosphere was lacking. Rather disappointed.
