Visited Four Ponies with family for a special occasion and left three hours later feeling a little disappointed.
We waited for 15 minutes at the front of the restaurant in the cold (the huge front door had been left open and it was freezing outside), avoided by staff who were clearly run off their feet. Finally, a staff member approached us and we found that my online booking was not recorded, despite receiving a confirmation email.. Once seated, staff took a further 20 minutes to return with a drinks menu and another 15 minutes to bring food menus. A waitress apologised for "forgetting" us and quick brought our drinks out. We were worried the food would take even longer to come out, but it did arrive very quickly and was nice and hot.
The food itself is good - tasty and well-priced, but nothing out-of-the-ordinary. It's well cooked, but the menu is a bit all over the place. I love the whole share-plate thing, but many of the dishes are difficult to share. We were a party of five and found it hard to share dishes that only contained four serves, such as pork bao buns (4 serves) and spring rolls (4 serves). There were very few side dishes and even fewer complimented each other, resulting in a bit of a mish-mash of cuisines.
Luckily, the bread and butter pudding saved the evening (seriously delicious) and the bill was very reasonable.
This place has great potential, but the menu needs a bit of a rethink and more staff need to be rostered on weekends and busy periods.
