Great location, ultra comfortable & how is that great bathtub on the private deck - just the thing to recover from a hard day's wine tasting & indulgence at Josef Chromy's. Nicely located on the outskirts of the the CBD & walking distance to some great restaurants, gourmet stores & the really good Farmers market. Decor is best described as eclectic - sort of works, but could be better. The great views over a lovely garden make up for the somewhat disconnected interior. Some nice original touches like the guest art book. Lots of under utilised space in the bathroom - a more generous space for toiletaries would be terrific. Pity about the thin, non fluffy towels and the lack of nice thick, comfy bathrobes - would make the trip back to the Pavilion from the tub less daunting.

Set in the gardens of the beautiful Hatherley House (a Victorian Mansion on High Street Launceston) is a collection of residences called the Hatherley Birrell Collection. We stayed in the magnificent Magnolia Pavillion apartment for 4 nights of peace and tranquillity. We arrived late at night and armed with our security code for the huge front gate, our arrival was effortless. Again a code for the front door of the apartment and parking was just 3 metres away. The glorious view of the garden and huge magnolia tree greeted us at first light and was sublime. With the sliding door open, you can touch the branches of this beautiful tree. The setting cannot be described, it’s too beautiful. The king-size bed was uber comfortable and the room was of large proportions. Everything is there you require for a perfect stay. Two words describe this chic residence, ”very private”. Quality fittings are throughout with Appelles Apothecary shampoos, conditioners and body lotions. There is air conditioning for those brisk Launceston nights and mornings and very comfortable, stylish and modern Arne Jacobsen egg chairs to read a book in, draw a picture in the guests book or just simply absorb the amazing view of the garden. Our experience in the outside bath/hot tub on the deck was very positive. I would not have thought to use it until prompted by Rebecca the owner. Nights were cool but the huge bath was amazing! There is nothing like sitting in a hot tub and watching the steam dissipate with a glass of bubbles in hand. The breakfast was carefully stacked in our fridge every morning, yogurt, preserved spiced fruit, muesli, juice, bread for toasting and the best coffee and teas. The kitchen was fully stocked.
The position of this residence makes it very easy to walk everywhere in Launceston. We had a car but several times walked to town to view the magnificent properties and gardens in the area.
I would not hesitate to stay here again and had a wonderful stay but would make the following wee criticisms.
The towels are too small and thin for such an ultra plush property – bath sheets are needed urgently and bath robes should also be supplied. The bathroom also needs some bench space somewhere.
Breakfasts were lovely but for an extended stay they should be varied occasionally.
Otherwise this is one of the best properties I have stayed in, and I can imagine a honeymoon here would be magic. Thanks Rebecca, we will definitely be back.
