This is an excellent place we found on a recent Tassie holiday. The room we had was bigger than normal and the price was $150 per night. Location excellent! When we checked in the guy at the desk said the breakfasts in the restaurant there were the best in the world!.... I asked him if he had just been to a sales training conference? He laughed and said "Actually yes I have".
Anyway the next morning we went in the restaurant for breakfast and while saying best in the world is a big statement it was a fine breakfast and as good as I have had in Australia anyway!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade room only $10 or $20 extra and far bigger and better than standard rooms.

I was amazed when I got to know that the main building was built in 1847. The classic attire of the rooms was spectacular. The hotel has everything with sophisticated facilities like free wi-fi, Air conditioner, laundry, Tv. Fitness center (Gym) was filled with everything that I need. ATM machine was installed in the vicinity of the hotel, helped me when the money ran out of my pockets. The hotel and car parking was under surveillance.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, right in the heart of Launceston. There is also free parking on site and free wifi. The hotel is a heritage school building, with rooms that have been updated to 70's style and standards. We had booked a standard room and arrived on a Sunday, to find the hotel largely empty. Nevertheless we were given a room on the last floor (2 flights of stairs! No elevator, one has to carry his/her suitcases. Our room had views to another wing, the drab interior courtyard carpark, ie... no views. Like the hotel, Launceston on a Sunday looked like a ghost town, with deserted streets and most restaurants closed or almost empty. A depressing athmosphere. Both the city and the hotel got populated on Monday, which may suggest that it could be more of a business and commuter workforce dormitory. The room was clean and acommodates 3 people. Everything worked but we missed having a toaster and a tea infuser. There was only the kettle. The fridge bar well suplied but expensive. The hotel lobby and the on site restaurant have a period decor including with many antique and vintage items, for those fans of old times charm. We spent 2 nights are room was cleaned /serviced. Reception staff was friendly and helpful. They supplied a walking itinerary of Launceston city, which did not correspond, in parts, with the reality, and took us to some drab and uninteresting streets, or we just got lost. Breakfast is available on site, as well as room service, we cannot comment as we did not used them. Also noticed a small gym, whick looks like a rushed addition. The hotel corridors and rooms have a residual smell of tobacco and I noticed staff smoking at start of shift in the morning. So overall a bit of a mixed bag. Not overly impressed but ok if you need a clean and decent place to sleep.

Great character, friendly and helpful staff who were extremely accomodating to all my requests (Michael and Carissa at reception were warm, welcoming and great for a chat). If you travel for work or just need a place close to town (walk as parking in town co$ts) with super comfy beds with great fit outs then stay here and support small business - and the a joining 3 steps restaurant suit me over any super modern polish joint any day of the week - I highly recommend eating there with a cheeky beverage great food and friendly staff and locals .
I like to support smaller business when i can and decided on the Quality Hotel Colonial Launceston for my business overnighter. Based on the pictures this place looked like it had character and i wasn't disappointed i had a great sleep and with endeavour to stay again next time.

Room Tip: call before you book online - speak to Michael and Carissa at reception and ask if they have any ama...

Booked on their website and ended up in one of the third floor balcony rooms. Not exactly a panoramic view, but a good look at Launceston. Very conveniently located. Coles supermarket just across Princes Square. Also near the top of George St which is where many of the main shops and restaurants are. Plenty of parking. Our room was a good size. Sofa and small table and chairs dining type area. Comfy bed with electric blanket (gets cold in Launceston) and air conditioning. Free WIFI worked fine. Decently stocked minibar at reasonable prices. Service relaxed but nothing we asked them was any trouble. You could go looking for a modern "could be anywhere" hotel but why would you when you can experience a nice slice of Launceston.
