For a building with long history, the provisions can be ranked as very good notwithstanding some furnitures are a bit worn out.
The 5-persons room we stayed at was quite spacious and the beds, 1 double, 2 singles and 1 pull-out, were comfortable. Located at CBD with easy access for transportation, with en suite rooms at a budget price, it is just right to say that: Value for money!

Room Tip: the corner suite is spacious and warm.

Location is good and price reasonable. It gets only 2 free parking spaces, but it is easy to get a metered parking space just right outside the inn, which is free from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Staff are friendly though the man at the reception looks stern (but he is actually very friendly and helpful). But the furniture in the room is so old-fashioned. Moreover, it is not clean enough. The glass put in the bath room for brushing teeth has layers of dust inside. Maybe we are unlucky to be given a room which has been vacant for a long period of time and they forget to change the glass first before we move in. The worst thing is we were woken up at 6:30 a.m. in the morning by very loud sounds from a truck. I guess it is garbage collection.

Stayed here for a couple of nights before heading out on the Overland Track. Chose this backpackers as it was only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop for buses to start of track. (seems to be closest backpackers to main bus interchange)
The Launceston City Park is 1 minute down the road, great if you are waiting to check in or want to check out the cute monkeys there!
Supermarket was approx. 10 minute walk away, or there are plenty of cafe's and restaurants around the corner from the backpackers if you don't feel like cooking. (Great sandwiches/filled rolls at the shop on the corner by City Park too.)
Stayed in a 4 bed female dorm which was fine. Having en-suite was convenient. Shower had good temperature and pressure. Only minor downfall was lack of power points for charging phones etc. (1 in the room, but better than none.)
Very little street noise at night so you can get a good nights sleep.
All staff were very friendly and answered all questions.
Good central location.
On site Bar was not officially in operation at time of stay but was a good area to have a drink and socialise with other travellers.
Kitchen was well equipped.
Downsides:
Internet was free but painfully slow. Unless you desperately need to check email don't bother. (this may have since changed.)
Place would be very cold in winter.

A friend and I booked a twin room with ensuite in early January 2012. Considering it was peak holiday time, the price we paid delivered excellent value. The beds were comfortable and the room well equipped. The communal kitchen was a good option for reheating takeaways and catching up with other travellers. We found the place extremely clean throughout, and the luggage lift was a godsend! Great foyer with photos of Messrs Batman & Fawkner featured, as well as short history of Inn. Plans afoot for on-site eatery/bar, apparently. We discovered a fab Indian restaurant about a block away; was so good, we went back the second night! On arrival, nearby City Park was a stunning place to rest and wait until our room was ready. All in all a great stay.
