A character House coupled with a great hospitality

Review of Colhurst House
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Feb 2020via mobile
When we left such a B&B, we felt a lot of positive things linked to house’s exceptional history, old internal design and building architecture, confort of the bedrooms without forgetting the outstanding hospitality of Patty, who prepared a memorable breakfast.
For all these reasons and others probably ( Blue Lake discovery), Colhurst House is very good milestone on the road to Adelaide.

A jewel in Mount Gambier! A wonderful house with a lovely garden.
Th very spacious “White room”, the friendliness of the welcome, the quality of the breakfast, everything here allows you to have an excellent stay.

Breakfast wasn’t included, even though we booked the Suite ($250)!
Was told on waiting at the table, that we didn’t select breakfast on our booking, which I still don’t see?
I’ve never stayed in a B&B and breakfast not included? Turned out very disappointed, but beautiful room and house though.

If you are looking for a run of the mill hotel then this is not for you. If you are looking for a property with history and lovely spacious rooms then stop on by. Keys were left outside for our arrival and our room was lovely - huge room, huge bed and great bathroom. We had doors that led out on to a balcony but unfortunately the weather wasn't great when we were there so didn't get to sit outside with a glass of wine. Short walk to the main street and a short drive to local points of interest.

We recently enjoyed a 3 night stay here. Very centrally located, just a short walk to the Main Street for shops, cafes and restaurants. We were staying in the Black room, which was very clean and comfortable. Good size bed, which was very comfortable, as were the pillows. Well appointed bathroom, with an impressive stand alone bath and separate shower. The Black room is upstairs, so a few stairs to navigate which is fine unless you have mobility issues. There is a lounge downstairs, where we relaxed with a drink after a day of sightseeing. Tea and coffee making facilities are just off from the breakfast area, with cake and biscuits provided daily. We also received a small bottle of complimentary wine and chocolates in our room every day. Parking is at the rear of the building. Whilst there were other guests staying at the same time we were there, it was amazingly quiet. Breakfast is available at $20 per head, however we choose to try out the various cafes around town. Overall a great stay.

My husband and I spent a night here on our way down the Great Ocean Road. We arrived fairly late but still received a warm welcome from Patty, who manages the property. We stayed in the "White Room," which was very spacious and nicely furnished. The bathroom was large with a clawfoot tub and shower combination. The bed was very comfortable. What sets this hotel apart are the many little nice touches the management has in place to think of the guest's needs. There is self-serve tea and coffee available in the kitchen along with delicious homemade cake and biscuits. In our room we found a small bottle of complimentary wine as well as chocolates by the bed. The bathroom was stocked with a generous and varied supply of amenities. We did not partake in the hotel's breakfast (available for an additional fee) because we wanted to get on the road right away in the morning, but we smelled something delicious being cooked for other guests. Overall, this was an excellent place to stay in the lovely little town of Mount Gambier.
