The Cave Gardens are a stunning semi-underground escape in the heart of Mount Gambier. A sinkhole that has been transformed into tranquil green space, the attraction is one of many unusual limestone formations dotted around the city.

There is a winding path you can follow down to get a closer view, as well as a few well- placed viewing platforms. The idea of a gorgeous garden in a sinkhole being in the middle of the city is unusual indeed. It's worth going to see... although there is a downside. I was admittedly, disappointed that there is rubbish at the bottom of the gardens. This should be a mesmerising moment where you lose your senses looking at this garden...but instead I found that the rubbish marred the view. I have no doubt that it's a difficult area for the council to maintain because access is not good, but this is a huge selling point to visit the city... so some care must be taken.

I enjoyed the gardens... they are easy to locate and quite pretty, but they could be better.

What a lovely sink hole/garden and has a beautiful rose garden above it, free entry and many historic buildings all around it.

Small sinkhole in the middle of city. Significant for town supply to Blue Lake but as a tourist visit - it’s OK. Gardens cute. Pathway around it so you can see it all but will probably only take up 20minutes of your time.

Surprising sinkhole in the middle of the city where they have created a pretty garden. This is worth a visit en route to the art gallery.
