Hidden away in the Glenelg suburbs, a small well kept park with an old dead tree. Then you notice the plaques embeddedin the tree and on reading realise that this was the site of the first settlement of the pioneers in South Australia.
So its not a museum, not a place to spend much more than 15 minutes, but there is a feeling of history in its simplicity.
By the way, for those 15 minutes the kids can play in the play area next to it.

A group of us walked here from our accommodation. We were surprised at the size of the reserve and at The Old Gum Tree. It is a lovely place to visit. The council needs to replace the signs with the history of the tree and the region, they are becoming very hard to read.

As a visitor to the area this was an interesting piece of South Australian history. It is about a 20 minute walk from the beach.

A perfect way to while away a afternoon and visit an historic spot when you're in the area.
Take along a bottle of fizz and just relax - or if you have children with you, then it's a great place to sit and watch them play on the new apparatus.
Easy walking distance from jetty road - only about 15 minutes - so what are you waiting for ?

This park is tucked away in suburbia. The park is sign posted with limited signage coming off ANZAC Hwy, but there some signs. Once there, the park is a beautiful spot for a picnic and kids (of all ages) to play. There are some great play equipment for the younger one; with seats, tables and shelters to for everyone to enjoy the park. The history of the spot is well documented on several information boards, this the end of a history walk around Glenelg (some 7 points on history within about 3 or 4 km walk). If coming by car, there is limited street side (free) car spaces and the suburban streets are narrow. Very interesting spot, my teenage kids were more interested in kicking a football than taking in the history - but we all enjoyed ourselves in a well laid out park.
