Upon entering our room, we were really happy. The furnishings/artwork were beautiful, and the view from the 13th floor was amazing. However once we looked away from the view we realised the apartment was filthy. I have stayed in so many places, both cheap and expensive, and have never, EVER, stayed anywhere this grotty.
There were only 2 towels for the 2-bedroom apartment, no bin bags, no plugs for the kitchen sink or laundry trough. Every surface was sticky, and the skirting boards, windowsills and bedside tables had a thick layer of dust covering them (which was not great, as my daughter and I both suffer bad hay fever). The walls had not been cleaned where something had been spilled down them. The cupboard where the vacuum was kept had thick black grime in the bottom of it. As for the balcony, the outdoor table still had food crumbs all over it, there was rubbish on the floor, and something had been spilled and not cleaned up. I thought it would be quicker to clean the room myself (as the cleaners obviously do not do a great job), and upon pulling the beds away from the wall to deal with all the dust, found dead cockroaches and rubbish under the beds.
I have never in my life made a complaint about accommodation I have booked, but this was like nothing I have experienced. When I went downstairs to let them know about the state of the room, there was no one at the desk, despite it being business hours. When I rang the number for management, I was told that the cleaners do not get time to do a proper clean between guests in peak season!! This seems absolutely ridiculous considering the number of other clean apartments I’ve stayed at during peak season, and especially given the current COVID situation, where cleanliness is more important than ever.
I finally received some more towels and bin bags (but still no plugs – I ended up purchasing my own from the supermarket). Once I had cleaned the room it was perfectly fine and we had a nice stay, but I feel for the owners of the apartment and wonder if they realise it is being kept in such poor condition. I would not be happy if it were mine. It’s such a shame because the apartments are in a fantastic location. And funnily enough, when we went to check out, the man in the queue in front of us had gone there to make a similar complaint. On a more positive note, the pool area was lovely (and clean!).
