“Not what it used to be.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2012

Kirra Beach used to be one of the great surfing beaches but it has changed so much it's just not what it used to be.

Fine for swimming but nothing special, remember to always swim between the flags and never take that for granted.

“Always was a great big beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2012

There has been a great deal of publicity about how Kirra Beach is being ruined ... Too much sand! Some of the young surfers think the Tweed diversion is ruining the surfing point break. The fact is that there always was a lot of sand at Kirra ... Back in the 60s the place was a fav spot for university students recovering from exams, and the 100 a side beach cricket games we're possible because of the wide expanse of sand. The region always had that wonderful bohemian atmosphere, which generally seems to prevail to modern times. It is interesting to see that some of the fancy new apartment buildings are selling the message for the old baby boomers to "come on home" ... Kirra still has the original feel.

“My personal GC favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

This beach is my personal favorite on the Gold Coast...the south end is open, very wide and has heaps of options for family beach fun. As you move north, the beach goes on forever, plenty of room to get away from the crowd if that is your desire...and lots of room to stretch your lets on the kms of lovely sand...the beach is wide most of the way up toward Bulimba...with a couple of surf clubs (with lifesavers) along the way if you are looking for a quiet, underused (but still patrolled) bit of beach...

We walked the length of Kirra beach most everyday of our stay in nearby Coolangatta and enjoyed it every time...
