I stayed twice at this hotel and although I have never stayed at another hotel in Wollongong it is hard to imagine that there would be a better hotel around. The hotel is located a stone-throw away from the city center (Wollongong's mall). Around the corner there are a number of interesting and relatively affordable restaurants serving Thai, cotinental and Middle Eastern food. The hotel itself is very weel equipped with rather large rooms that, I think, almost all come with their kitchenette which includes a refridgerator, microwave and plates, cutlerly etc. All quite handy. The bathrooms are equally large. Bed's very comfortable. And most rooms have a sitting area as well where you can receive guests or relax. The hotel has a small but handy gym and a small but relaxing pool on the first floor.
No big disadvantages, I guess. Though a number of small things could be improved. For one: the smoke detector beams a small flash light at regular intervals. As the smoke detector is attached to the ceiling right in front of the cupboard-door which is covered with a lager mirror, the light is reflected in this mirror and rather annoyed me throughout the night. I resorted to covering the smoke detector with a black sock but obviously that does not really help safety.
Another thing that could be improved is the bathtub which you have to stand in while taking a shower. The bathtub is very slippery and if you are not carefully it is very easy to slip and seriously hurt yourself. I wonder why the hotel does not provide a rubber math that can be put in the bathtub. Surely I am not the first who thought this set-up was quite dangerous and had a near accident.
Finally I found their wifi rather ridiculously expensive considering that most hotels are able to offer this free of charge these days. I paid 26 dollars for 24 hours which is expensive to say the least. For this rate you will be able to connect your laptop and then one more device for free but I was not able to make this work.
Otherwise this hotel is probably your best bet in Wollongong. Staff is friendly. They provide a range of free newspapers everyday at the reception (Australian, Mercury etc). And there is limited parking available (which I did not make use of). I would likely stay here again on my next visit to Wollongong.
