The individual koalas are so beautifully created by their artists. They seem to display their own personalities! While we haven't seen all the koalas the ones we have seen are truly amazing. The artistic attention to detail and creativity is awesome. The gift shop is most worthwhile visiting - being greeted by very welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly staff. So many quality products on display to purchase, you'll be making a purchase for sure.
Congratulations to all involved with all aspects of the 'Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail', it is a wonderful vision now shared by so many creative and generous people. Can't wait to find more koalas on our future visits.
Thank you so much for your review. Visitor feedback is extremely valuable for Hello Koalas and let's us know we are doing a good job. We are currently creating The Big Koala (2.5 metres high) 4for a new tourism precinct being developed by Forestry NSW in the Cowarra State Forest, near to the Pacific Highway turnoff to Port Macquarie in the east and Wauchope in the west. We hope to unveil our Big Koala at the annual Hello Koalas Festival and Treasure Hunt, 24 and 25 September 2022. We look forward to seeing you again soon. And thanks again for your positive words. Best wishes from the Hello Koalas Team.
There are over 70 of these colorful fiberglass replicas of the koala and we managed only a few as they appeared dotted around all over the place. Interesting concept, ideally for kids.
Thank you for your review. We now have over 80 Hello Koalas sculptures on the Trail as a free cultural tourism attraction for the community and visitors to enjoy.
The Glasshouse Arts and Visitor Centre and other tourism outlets have a complimentary map to guide people around the Trail - I hope you were able to pick one up. There are around 40 sculptures around the town in easy walking distance or a short drive.
Did you know that we are also building the Big Koala for the summer? It will be 2.5 metre high and placed at the new Cowarra State Forest tourism hub, near the Pacific Highway.
Interestingly, the Hello Koalas sculptures are much loved by people of all ages. Family groups are our principal audience (often children, parents, grandparents).
Seniors are our second largest audience with lots of individuals, couples and groups popping into our Hello Koalas Gift Shop to have a chat about their experience following the Trail and to pick up a colouring book or T towel as a memento.
We love hearing about peoples reactions to the Hello Koalas sculptures.
One of the things we are most proud of is that we spent 9 months working with the Koala Hospital to create an authentic design of the species of koala found in Port Macquarie! And finding some amazing local artists to work with. This enables us to promote koala care and conservation in a unique and memorable way.
If you visit Port Macquarie again, please contact me and I'd be happy to give you a short guided tour.
Thanks again for your interest.
The gorgeous sculptures are a credit to this who made them and thought of such a simple, genius idea to attract tourists to different parts of Port Macquarie!
Thank you so much for your glowing comment. We have two more one metre high Hello Koalas sculptures underway plus the Big Koala for later this year. So please come back soon.
Amazing amazing project!!!!! My teenagers had a blast chasing these koalas all over town. Met the talented lady that started this project and she is one of the loveliest people you could meet. Such a treasure to talk to. Would love to see Tourism Australia support this amazing lady and her project just a little bit more so she could potentially have a centrally located office and extra staff to help her out, as the office is a bit out of the way for tourists and can't afford to be open full time, but I imagine this is all the project could afford at the present time. I hope to see this project get bigger and better. Best wishes to all xo
We are so glad to hear your family enjoyed the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail and thank you for your comments. I am a little embarrassed!
With the installation of the Big Koala later this year at the new Cowarra State Forest tourism precinct, we hope to expand our retail presence in the region. But I, for one, enjoy talking to people who come through the doors of the Hello Koalas Gift Shop.
We are appreciative too of the ongoing support from our state and federal members, since we established the Trail back in 2014 with 50 Hello Koalas sculptures. Now we have 80!
We shall see what transpires after COVID! Thanks again and come and see us again soon. Margret
These koalas are absolutely gorgeous. Took the scenic route on the walk from our accommodation to dinner so we could seek out a few of these beautiful art works. Absolutely made me smile. I can’t wait to bring my daughter here to enjoy this lovely town and see these bright and cheery koalas.
Thank you for sharing your experience with our Hello Koalas sculptures.
We have just launched our 79th koala called "Winnie the Unicorn", created by local artist Pauline Roods with specialist help from our local fibreglass manufacturer John Belfield and adornments from local brook-maker Thompsons Brushes!
Winnie is now resident at our Hello Koalas Gift Shop at Unit 16, 10 Bellbowrie Street in Port Macquarie, a hop, step and a jump from Settlement City.
Looking forward to seeing you and your daughter and please pop in to say "hello". And thanks again for your heart-warming review.
By accident, we found more and more of these beautiful koalas as we go around the city in shops, cafes, and hotels,
Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail has 79 one metre high fibreglass koala sculptures, hand painted by local artists in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
So we are glad you found lots to see and say "hello" on your visit to Port Macquarie.
Thank you for letting us know about your discovery of our Hello Koalas. We are working on our 80th koala right and look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon. We offer a 24/7 information hotline by text and email too. Just visit our website for details. Thanks again!
