Owner description: HELLO KOALAS SCULPTURE TRAIL, PORT MACQUARIE Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is a fun and entertaining day out for people of all ages. There are over 56 one metre high fibreglass koala sculptures, dotted across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region, from the mountains to the sea. The hand painted and mosaic sculptures have been created by selected artists and offer a dazzling display of original artwork. Hello Koalas is a bold, ambitious and imaginative sculpture project, which celebrates one of Australia's iconic animals - the Koala. Above all, it is designed to generate a sense of fun and surprise for everyone who comes across one of the creatively decorated koalas resting in parkland, lazing by the river, waiting outside the shops, or playing with children. The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail Guide is available at most Tourism outlets, including the Visitor Information Centre at the Glasshouse in Clarence Street, in Port Macquarie's CBD or you can download a pdf online before you arrive. The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is not owned by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. The Trail is run by a private family company and the Hello Koalas sculptures are sponsored by local businesses and organisations to enable the Trail to be a free and fun experience for all ages.

It’s always awesome when we go somewhere in port and surrounds and spot one of these gorgeous koalas. The kids adore them and love marking each one off on their visual list

What a heartwarming response. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail was very proud to win Silver in the NSW 2018 Tourism Awards which is testament to the popularity of our Hello Koalas but your words are eloquent in reinforcing why Hello Koalas is so popular. The koalas are very loveable and we continue to grow with three new Hello Koalas joining the Trail over summer, taking our grand total to 65. So there will be more for your kids and their friends to tick off shortly!

Some are heading off to Sydney and Canberra for touring exhibitions in 2019 too which will be fun. More news on Facebook.

Thanks again for your review and hope you enjoy the summer holidays with our Hello Koalas. PS Don't forget to diarise the 3rd Hello Koalas Festival 6 - 9 June 2019.

They're everywhere! and very cute, with a different theme for each of them - like the elephant parade which I'm a big fan of as well! We didn't go on the "trail" intentionally, but found quite a few around town that were fun to see and take pictures of :)

We love the elephant parade too and caught up with some of the sculptures at Melbourne Zoo a few years ago. However, most of these sculpture projects are short term and the sculptures generally disappear from view. When we planned our Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail, we were keen to create a permanent attraction so people could revisit the Trail at anytime and find new sculptures joining the original 50 sculptures when we launched in September 2014. Now we are up to 65 sculptures and continuing to grow. We encourage you to follow the Trail, because it will take you to lots of interesting places that you might not otherwise discover. There are quite a few just in the centre of town which you can see within one to two hours. You can download a Trail Guide from our website too. Happy Hello Koalas Adventures! And thanks for your review.

My daughter loved to find the koalas but it's just a shame some of them are so far apart and I'm not sure why some of these are in pubs and clubs considering it's a kid activity.

Thank you for your comment, Steve. One of the ideas behind the Trail is to encourage people to explore the region and find koalas in intriguing and often scenic locations, like a treasure hunt.

Most people love the opportunity to explore places they had not intended to visit or had not discovered before on a previous visit.

To cater for people visiting for just a day or two, we have positioned over 20 Hello Koalas sculptures in and around the CBD for people wanting to take our self-guided walking tour or are fine with short car trips to places like the Koala Hospital and Sea Acres Rainforest Centre.

While the Hello Koalas sculptures are very popular with children, they are, in fact, popular with all age groups, including young couples, families with teenagers, grandparents, 'grey nomads' and special interest groups.

There is only one pub and and one club where sculptures are located and both are extremely popular for family meals and offer high quality playgrounds.

Two of the reasons why there is this broad appeal (for locals and visitors) is the intricacy and calibre of the artwork and the important koala conservation and historical messages which are incorporated in their designs.

I would be happy to escort you and your daughter on a guided tour when you return to Port Macquarie to see more Hello Koalas! Just send me a message via Facebook.

One of the highlights of our short stop over in lovely Port Macquarie was the Koala sculptures. We were excited by the first one, nestled in the gardens of a historic house, but were delighted to find them on display or hidden away all over town. Beautifully decorated, individual styles, painted and decorated to a very high standard. Unique street art. Well done.
