The bistro pub meal has come a long way and Harrigan’s was no exception the food came out so fast the chips were cold but we asked for a fresh plate and to our surprise another fish and chips came within minutes.
The $22 to $30 for a main meal was a bit on the high side for a bistro.
We did get the beer tasting palette for $20 with a pint so that was a good deal
Good for a feed with some atmosphere but we have had a better meals at other pubs

A quiet Tuesday night in the hunter and we checked into harrigans, mainly because of its proximity to the hunter valley gardens and our dinner destination.

My last stay here was around 15 years ago and the rooms are just as I remember them. While the decor hadn’t changed much, the room was clean, comfortable and acceptably modern (enough).

A nice outdoor area leads off the back of the room, with vineyard views.

At $160 a night, it’s about the location. You’re in the thick of it. Close to concert venues, restaurants and of course, the pub.

They won’t make you feel special here, but you certainly don’t leave feeling too bad either.

Style : pub / motel

Location : 10/10

Price : 6/10 $160 a night, you’re paying for the location, not luxury

Restaurant: 6/10 we didn’t eat here this time, but have done so many times. Pub menu, pub service, restaurant prices. Hubby enjoyed the mega serve of ribs

Ambience : the Irish pub ambience is genuine and lively, hotel rooms drab

Satisfaction : 6/10 .... not bad

We were not impressed with our stay at Harrigan's. Firstly it isn't very clean and the bathrooms are very dated. There are bugs everywhere especially mosquitoes so bring your aerogard.

There is insect spray in the rooms and you will need to use it. They warn you about the noise and you have earplugs supplied in your room. It was the noise of inconsiderate inebriated guests returning to their rooms that was annoying.

Overall the Hunter Valley is expensive and overrated. We have been before and didn't like it and our opinion hasn't changed.

I go to Harrigan’s every time I am in Hunter Valley! It’s a very big pub (currently renovating some parts) and the staff are very friendly. It’s a great spot for drinks and food and they have a large outdoor entertainment area. Would highly recommend to visit!

Reception staff welcoming but....Room was very tired. Furniture Tired, Grouting in bathroom needed redoing. No aircon, and no bodywash in the bathroom. Shower leaked onto the bathroom floor. Gap around the doorway where bugs could enter. (Some insect killer in the wardrobe) PAT dates on appliances out of date. Bedside lamp didn't work. The restaurant is a bit different in as much as you order your food with a cashier, and pick up your own cutlery. You also fetch your own drinks from the bar. Service finished early at 8.50pm and the sports bar closed at 10.00pm. Steak was a bit gristly but the Guinness Pie excellent. Help yourself breakfast was excellent too. Parking outside your front door was good and the entertainment good too. Ideally situated for wine country. A bit of a Curate's Egg this one.
