“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

I have been travelling to Newcastle for over 2 years now for business and by far my preferred hotel is the Crowne Plaza. The company has put me into quite a few hotels so have comparative experience. The staff is friendly and professional. The rooms are neat and tidy and cleaned well. The location is excellent. Recommended.

Room Tip: Habour-side have the best views.

Visited early March 2012, stayed 2 nights. Terrific room, even on ground floor level - 4th floor views would be much better. Service is very good, full buffet breakfast ($33) has tremendous range of food, lots of staff in brekky room. Concierge great, free maps of Honeysuckle area. Easy walk to city, beaches, very close to heaps of bars, restaurants, eateries. Would recommend to all.

Room Tip: Higher rooms better view of harbour.

Dear Mr Bridge,

Thank you for posting a great review.

We are very fortunate with our location in the Honeysuckle area and are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our garden and harbour views. Next time you stay in Newcastle, we’ll do our best to give you a room on a higher floor.

At Crowne Plaza Hotels, we know how important breakfast is to give you a great start of the day. Thank you for your positive feedback and don’t be surprised if you experience an even better breakfast, the next time you stay as we strive for continuous improvements.

I am pleased that you enjoyed the great service of our concierge team and it is really encouraging for the team to see such feedback in the public domain.

We look forward to welcoming you back and if you haven’t already, please sign up for Priority Club Rewards, it’s free to join and you can earn points or miles towards great rewards.

Yours Sincerely,

Just had a disappointing stay at the Newcastle Crowne Plaza.
The room itself was clean and sleep quality was fine so no problem there, but that was it for the Ok points.
Our room rate included breakfast so we arrived at the restaurant at about 9am.. to be shown to a dirty table and was told by the waitress that she would clean and set it for us.. she took away the dirty plates and that was it.. after waiting 5 minutes, I went and asked someone if they could set it as it is hard to eat without a knife and fork .. and after some mumbling and grumbling it was set … Well that was it, we were avoided like the plague, to that extent that we could not even get a coffee. We helped our self to the buffet and everything was cold and uninteresting.. The whole breakfast experience was that bad, the next morning I paid for breakfasts at a nice little café called Twist, instead of enduring the free breakfast at the hotel.
We also had a drink at the bar on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and the service was almost as appalling as at breakfast .. Again, we left the hotel to have a drink on Saturday and found a nice pub close with good service ..
The servicing of our room was not good either … on the day of arrival there was no milk in the fridge, morning two, we ended up with no towels. These are only little things, but you expect a lot better ..
As a long term platinum Priority Club member I have stayed at a lot of Crowne Plaza hotels and I would say that the service we received in this hotel was the worst I have encountered.
If you are travelling to Newcastle, look elsewhere for your accommodation..

Dear Bob_the_Aussie

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and I am very sorry to hear that on this occasion we fell well short in meeting your expectations.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cleanliness of the room and the sleep quality, but the service experience you had during breakfast and in the bar is inexcusable and certainly not the norm. It is understandable that this has created an impression that is hard to overcome.

Breakfast is a critical component of our guests’ experience and we strive to give our guests the best possible start of the day. I am very disappointed that we failed to provide this experience to you this time. We also sincerely apologize for the disappointing service you received in the bar and have discussed your feedback with our team. Your feedback about the missing items in the room has given us an opportunity to again work on ensuring rooms are thoroughly checked before releasing it for arriving guests.

As a frequent guest to our hotels and a valued platinum Priority Club member I hope you will give us an opportunity to demonstrate our usual high level of service that you can expect from us.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me direct should you wish to discuss your stay in more detail or if I can be of any assistance when you next visit Newcastle.

Yours Sincerely
Wim Ruepert

I travel internationally and must say the Crowne Plaza name is diminished by this location's generally poor appearance and offerings. I would not recommend this hotel unless you had no other alternative. The rooms were outdated, looked aged and although not visibly dirty, were not very inviting (visually a room you'd expect for 1/3 the price in an undesirable location). There was no wireless service, and the internet access was priced absurdly high with usage limitation and very slow. The breakfast buffet was comparable to other hotel chains. The staff was quite frankly too disengaged to be helpful. Upon check-in I had asked the concierge for help with a business mailing, he took my name and room #, yet 3 days later not one word about assistance on my request. No problem, the next hotel we stayed at in Sydney had it taken care of in minutes! Overall, it's a room if you need it, but the activity in the harbor makes sleeping difficult and the overall appearance is unappealing. Also, parking is COSTLY.

Dear Weightyghost

Thank you for taking the time to review us at Crowne Plaza Newcastle and I am sorry to hear that we did not met your expectations

Although our all-suite rooms do not have the latest contemporary designs, they have many attributes that receive extremely positive comment from many of our guests who find them spacious, comfortable and enjoy the magnificent views of the working Harbour that many rooms offer. This being said your feedback is invaluable and will assist us in our upgrade planning.

I fully acknowledge the problems we have with our wireless internet service, especially for guests who wish to stream video or download large files. We are fully committed and passionate about upgrading our wireless service and are working towards a speedy solution. We are also planning for changes to our fixed internet services so we can continue to meet the increasing expectations of our guests.

It is disappointing to hear that our team did not provide the service that we wish all our guests to experience and I sincerely apologize for our shortcomings during your stay. Our goals are definitely focused around the guest experience and will remain so. Feedback such as yours, reminds us that we need to be on our toes all the time and cannot afford to drop the ball.

I do hope that you may find cause to visit us again at some stage as I feel confident that you would see improvements in these key areas.

Your Sincerely,
Wim Ruepert

I stayed at this hotel for three nights whilst on business and enjoyed the first two.The third night was ruined due to the kitchen floor being re-laid during the night!! the hotel did not even have the decency to inform guests that maintenance would be taking place.
